Just got a 10X loupe...

And now all my cards look like crap. image

Maybe now I can figure out the difference between an 8 and a 9... Not even going to think about 10's...

  • if the loup is not corrected for curvature you need one of mine i sell for 12$ with a built in light like the ones the optomatrist uses to examine your eyes.

Cardknowledge@earthlink.net take it from a guy who used to own two jewelry stores

    Marz-

Could you please shoot me an email....I would be interested in purchasing one of your loups off of you (if you have any left).

    My email address is: jbasilone@adelphia.net

    Thanks,

    John
  • I see this 10X stuff all the time on here. Is that really necessary? I've found that I can predict with 90-95% accuracy what a card is going to get (non-grader of death submissions anyway) and all I use is a lighted 4X magnifier I bought at Hobby Lobby. Is this 10X something I need? If it is then I'll get one.

Excuse my ignorance, but why would you need one corrected for curvature if you're looking at FLAT cards?

    Great German Magnifiers

Check out the ones at the bottom of this page. I bought an 8x lighted one for around $50 last year. Very solid piece, with great illumination and a crystal clear image (thanks to German optics). Very short focal length though, but you can get used to it.
  • Do you a picture of the loupe? I would be interested as well. I picked up mine at the photo shop and it does not have a light.
    Thanks,
    Michael

send me your e-mail. I also have long wave pocket size battery operated Ultra vilet lights ( to detect alterations such as air brushing, corner building et...) both for $27 post paid or $28 -Paypal. I have sold tons of them to some of you folks before. They work very well.

I am Mr. Mom so if you send me your address,I will send photos of both. I can only check here irregularily because the tea kettle is whistling,if you get my drift! I have eight children in rotating shifts to watch all day with another coming.imageimageimageimageimageimage too bad only one of them(my daughter) collects cards yet!

  • simple- only the "MG-1035L" model is corrected for curvature.....why this is an issue??? One word "Corners" Would you enjoy seeing the corners from a real angle perspective when looking at a card"flat" as you say. The reality is you would be just as concerned to view a card from side and corner angle/as you would from the obverse or reverse.,especially if they are smaller cards (true vintage) ,or cards that you suspect are trimmed or even "proofs". By the way,the german ones are very nice and much more sturdy but way too much money! I can get you the B&L ones for $35. The same one you paid $50 plus for** Shalom Alachum-you tracking with me now my card collecting counter bud?

I use a 14x B&L from my Minerals class in college. It works fine.

    Pretty close . . . circa 1983
  • You're not kidding! I use my own l0 power, but my wife just got out her l0 power jewelry loupe. Talk about corners that all of a sudden are a mess!
  • As long as we're bragging, my loving wife got me BOTH a 10X loupe (for shops and shows) AND a 20X scientific microscope (for my home office) for Christmas this year!
