Does PCGS REALLY grade those complimentary silver Eagles?

I received my 2004 "MS69" silver Eagle from PCGS, and I noticed a couple of marks that are visible with the naked eye. Would a true MS69 have ANY visible marks?

Not that it's an issue, but I was just curious if PCGS actually grades these complimentary coins with the same diligence that they grade other coins. Do you think they only give these coins a quick look before slabbing them because they are not high-dollar items?

  • You know, I kinda had the same question. I thought the one I got was overgraded, but then I think I got what I paid for.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

MS69? They sent me an MS68 that I felt was undergraded.

I got a 68 2003. You should feel special. Mine has a spot on the obv. Probably HRH's personal spit.

PCGS used to send out New York quarters I believe that were #'d to 5,000 limited edition. I received a 2002 MS68 and gave it away as a thankyou gift.

If they really wanted to send me something, they could send me my 12/12/03 submissions with some good grades! image
