Moral of using a picture

well is it right or wrong to use someone elses picture after you win their auction.

is it copyrighted? is it filed as a copyrighted item with the gov?

if the picture isnt copyrighted wouldnt you think its fair game?

In papers internet work shoudl be sited. what about if htey use the pic and site who it was from. ( this opens the question to if somethign goes wrong with the deal your name goes though the mud with the deal cause your listed as the owner of the picture thats on the site) and then can you sue for a hit on your credability?

this can go SOOO many ways. what do you all think

Most people do not care if an image of a coin is used (in a propper way) after a coin is sold. However, legally, the image owner is the owner.

Copyright does not need to be applied for. When you are the original producer of a work, it is yours. So yes, when each of us scans, photographs, or writes a description of a coin, that belongs to us.

I believe it is wrong to use an auction's pictures that you won without receiving permission. While there are worse things to do, of course, it doesn't mitigate the fact that you're using something that you didn't create without permission. Except for formulas and fonts, once you've created something there is an automatic copyright. The enforcement of it is difficult, of course, unless you register it with the govt. And legally challenging it is probably not worth the expense.

  • I copy pics. to the database that I use to keep track of my coins, I guess from now on will have to ask permission to do so...nah !!

I'm glad the picture question was brought up, my use of the pics. ( I'm not using them to sell) doesn't hurt anyone.

If I do decide to sell I'll take my own pic.

Remember it's not how you pick your nose that matters, it's where you put the boogers.

  • Would it be okay for a private use likeibzman350 but not okay for public or commercial purposes? Sorta like ripping songs from several CDs to create your own MP3 mix of favorite songs.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • then you get into the whole napster thing where its wrong to take songs and put them on a CD for personal use only. which is funny only because it takes money to do all that stuff witht eh downloads and other stuff. youd think theyd cut something to the artists.

Personally, I believe that if you haven't bought the CD or whatever, then you don't have a right to rip the songs for personal use. It'd be like taking my car for personal use while I'm here at work without permission or compensation. And if you think that'd happen.... ain't no way. However, if you bought the CD, then I think you should be able to enjoy the music on it however you want privately. Same with software. I think you should be able to use the same license on each computer you own. Thing is, no one sticks to that.

Technique innovation usually occurs best when intellectual property rights are respected and compensated.

As far as I care when you buy my coins on eBay you can have the pictures for free.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
