Proof or BU?

I got 2 Barbados 1970 $4 coins today and was wondering if the Proof issue has frosted features or not.
These do not but the fields are reflective enough to read mirrored writing several inches away.
If someone has one of these for comparison or knows from experience can you please let me know?
TIA

Here's mine but it's not from Barbados, but rather Antigua. It has deep mirrors but no frosting.

I've got a regular strike (uncirculated business strike) from Barbados and while it's nice and clean, it's not proof or even proof-like. However, I dont' believe it's inconceivable for a proof-like business strike to exist, as with any of the first coins off new dies.

  • 2 of my uncircs do exhibit mirror like fields, but not to a depth that would make me think they were proofs. My proofs do not have the true cameo/frosted devices, but the fields are without a doubt nicely mirrored.

If you can read reflected writing, I would think proof, not uncirc.

  • Thanks for the info so far. I know it's hard to make a true call without coin in hand. Here's a pic of the extra that's for sale on my Extras List, it exhibits some cloudiness that is worse in the scan than in the hand:

I wish I could get a scan to show the Proof (like?) qualities but a camera is probably the only way.
