Well it took a while but tomorrow or the next day when the system updates my 70 Topps set will be 100% completed, and so I wanted to thank everyone who helped me build the set (about 50% was from my own submissions and the rest from dealers and other collectors). In particular I wanted to thank Keith Abrahms, Steve Hart, Frank Bakka, Chris Klinger amonst others for all of their great help and keeping me in mind.
Now on to 71 and the slightly tougher early 50 Bowman cards.
Thanks Again

Collector of baseball PSA sets from the 1970's & hockey rookie cards; big New York Rangers fan (particularly now that they are sleeping with the enemy with Holik and Kaspiritus). Also starting to collect 53 Bowman Color as I think they are the most beautiful cards I have seen.

Great job on the finish.

"moving on" to the '71 set? With a GPA over
8.50 and already with 98% of the cards in the
'71 set, I'm already jealous. Can't wait to see
where you end up with that one and where you
set the bar for the rest of us.
I have some '71 PSA 8's so just let me know if
there's any way I can help. I'll be glad to send
you a current list.
Good luck.

Chris,
Congratulations on a great accomplishment.!!!! If you attack the 71 set with the intensity that you gave the 70 set,it will be an awesome set also.
Good Luck,
Vic
Awesome Set!!!!!! Nice job!!!!!

But Moeller was the worst and the last and I had to settle for a 6 (the only 6 in the set).
638, 662 and 464 are the cards I mentioned above and I have them in a 7. Everything else is an 8, 9 or 10.
That Bench is a tough one. I wasn't planning on grading out the 1970 set next, but now that my 1969 set is almost all upgraded to 8 or better, I'm making the most progress on this set and will probably end up completing it before too long. I picked up a 1970 set in the last Mastro auction and the Bench AS was cherry. It's definitely an 8 with a shot at a 9. Most of the other AS cards were OC, so it looks like it was pure luck the Bench was nicely centered. I still haven't found a nice Yaz, Aaron or Rose AS card for my set.
Have you considered building the 1969 set at some point? I had to ask being one of the more vocal 1969 advocates.
Congratulations. I wonder where I would be now if I hadn't sold my set? I know your frustration with this set more than anyone - the last 3% of that set are rough! I remember looking at your set when I sold mine and noticed that you needed the #97. I had that card in PSA 8 (as well as a few others that I wanted to keep in PSA 8 and 9). I offered the buyer of my set a ridiculous amount off of the total for about 7 cards from the set and he wouldn't accept the offer. I eventually picked up 3 of them again and I'm still looking for another 2 cards that just never come up on ebay or appear in any dealer's inventory.
Anyhow, great job! I hope I didn't cost you too much when I was going after the set.

When I first started thinking about set building and saw the prices of the 1970 set I decided to go up 10 years were 9s appeared reasonable by a large margin.
Good luck with the adventures of 71s.

<< <i>This set has always been my favorite from any sport and any year.No other set can I vividly remember opening up packs as I did with the 70's. Most of the NL card pictures are taken from Shea Stadium and if you are familiar with that ballpark you can tell it's Shea even if you only see some fo the seats from an angle. I lived very close by and pretty much went there every SAturday and Sunday in the mid-seventies, even went there when the Yankees played there to see the American leaguers. Can remember many players in this set going deep at Shea....Aaron,Mays ,Clemente, Stargell ,Wynn, Colbert, Bench as well as seeing Ryan, Seaver, Jenkins, Gibson,Carlton,Niekro Sutton pitch there on a sunny weekend afternnon. Those Sunday doubleheaders, Seaver Vs Carlton , or Gibson or jenkins.Mets would always lose 1-0 or 2-1!! For some reason this sets just bubbles up all the memories to the top. I passively collect it in PSA 8 , but I have carried around alot of it raw for over 20 years , grading some and buying others.Ironically I keep a checklist on a printout of the pop report, on a page listing the #'s from 90-118 I only have 2 checked off...one of them happens to be Joey Moeller. Congrats Chris on the completion of the set, I know I have sold you several cards a while back and am glad to know I helped with a small piece of your achievement. You've got a beautiful set!!! >>
I feel the same way. I still remember opening my very first baseball card pack in the summer of 1970 from Marble Farms in Syracuse. I still have those cards (beat up as they might be from carrying them in my back pocket at school). I know the 1970 Topps are not highly rated but to me, whenever I see one of those cards, I still recall the pure joy of collecting.
I did complete a raw set of 1970 Topps back in 1984 and that is still my crowning achievement in my 34 years (off and on) of collecting sports cards.

- Slowly (Very Slowly) Working On A 1952 Topps Raw Set (Lower Grade)
First let me apologize for not chiming in sooner... I was traveling over the last few days and while I was able to read these threads on my laptop - I didn't have my frikkin password plugged in so I couldn't post!!!!
But, enough about me....
CONGRATS!!!!!! Yours is the FIRST and ONLY complete 70 Topps set EVER in the history of the registry. There will sure to be others to follow, but unless you take a vow of poverty for 5 or 6 years, you will continue to occupy that King of the Mountain spot for the foreseeable future! I echo Bleacher_Bum Steve's sentiments when I say that this set has a special place in the heart. How can you not like a set that has the Mets in the World Series AND Ryan still in a Mets uniform!
Looking forward to seeing you complete that 71 set! When you finish it, I'd like to see you build an alter of some sort for it so that the rest of us mortals can face in that direction during evening prayers!
Again Congrats Chris! Awesome effort!
Sets - 1970, 1971 and 1972
