Larry-
You are one heck of a generous man. I do not see a way for me to make it out to Portland, OR and be back at work in Ohio Wed. morning.
John
I stand corrected.... My apoligies... (UCSB...Hmmmm , that could stand for just about anything...Underappreiciated Collectors of Sports Bobbleheads...No..that's not it....Hmmm....)
Anyway...no matter who (or what..) your mascot is..there will be a place at the dinner table for you...
ChicagoGlen...
That's OK...We'll hoist one in your Honor..(You do have some kind of Honor, don't you..???) LOL.
I'll be in Chicago Mar. 19-21 for the Sun-Times show. Let's get together for more fun!!!
Basilone...
Hey John...
Who said you have to be back to work at all..??? Just figure a great Mini Summit dinner with a bunch of guys talking about baseball cards, stay over a few weeks and enjoy the Oregon Coast, grow your hair long, and THEN, go back and tell your boss that your moving to Scapposse OR. to join a commune....(Well...Maybe...LOL..)
Thanks for all the kind words...
Just trying to give something back to an organization that gave me so much.
Cheers!

I'll be sure to announce my future travel plans in advance. My wife is a vegetarian so steak dinners are few and far between for me.
Have fun.
We pick a place and time yet? Do you have an address so I can map out directions from the office I'll be working from?
PS. UCSB = U Can Study Buzzed ... and UCSB = 5 or 6 of the best years of your life! (In my case, 5!)
I'll be standing in the driveway ...
Edited to add that I'm conveniently located
just a short hour and a half north of Seattle
so for anyone coming from Alaska, I'll be right on your way.
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
That's real classy, and generous. BTW, where in Portland do you live? My whole family-- both sides-- is from the city of roses, and I lived in NW, up by 28th and Raleigh, until I was eight years old. My dad still lives in Or., although he now lives outside of Tillamook.
Also, for those of you not from the Pacific Northwest-- it's pronounced 'Oregun', not "Oregone'!
Be careful,I heard that Oregon is America's own UFO central according to the urban legends.

Also....watch out for Bigfoot or Sasquatch...or whatever you call him up there.....
Was that you chasing my kids to get their candy??? How come you were dressed up like Wade Boggs??? Ohhhh...that's right....BIG Red Sox fan....LOL....

Not a huge turnout, but we did have Registry guys from 3 states!!!
Funky Frank (Late70'sTopps) showed up from Seattle with a stunning 1975 Dave Winfield PSA 9 !!! The gloss was so good on this baby, you could almost see yourself in the reflection...Frank cut his work day short to make the 3 hour drive to Portland, just in time for drinks...(the worst thing is...he'll have to drive back, which puts him back home about 1:am......Coffee, Frank...Coffee...ha..)
A new face for me was introduction of Andy (onegaucho) from San Diego. A software instructor, that was very cordial and intelligent. Andy was here in Portland on business and we're glad he could find the time to "talk cards"...
It was non stop chatter from the opening bell.. Andy brought us up to speed on his passions..1950 Bowmans, T-206 HOF'er w/rare backs, and of course being from SD...his Tony Gwynn collection. Funky Frank spoke about his award winning 1975 set, along with the nuances of collecting the monster sets of the 70's. My contribution was some new "ticks" on collection oddball issues.... We had a blast!!!
With the different collecting styles, one would think that there wouldn't be much to say... wrong.... It really was too short of time, as the "tres amigos" talked, talked, talked....
Well, 2 1/2 hours flew by and we all had to go back to the real world.....
I liken this to a throw back in time............3 kids tradin' cards......
Special thanks to Andy and Frank......

BTW....did you have your "crown" on?
Sounds like you guys had a blast !
Wish I could have made it, but at least I was there in spirit last night :
Ate a steak, got drunk, and discussed my collection with our dog 'ko-ko' ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
Nope... (It was in the Krown Kleaners......)..
Besides that.....I was in the midst of bigger "Kings of Kollections".....
Wolfbear...
I could feel the telepathic vibes coming in..(not from you...........From ko-ko...ha..). Wish you were there..

Cool man, more than likely I'll be in thursday night and leaving early sunday. Probably staying at the doubletree.
I myself have found Gibsons to be great get to meet most of the gang along with dealers so it tends to be a win, win!!!!!! Just a tip for ya the head bartender is shawn he's awesome. Make sure you buddy up with him early. Better yet tell him you know Matt from michigan the card collector and you'll be VIP
First, a BIG thanks to "THE KING". Nevermind the qualifier of "Kellogg"... boys, Larry is THE KING. What a host. Not only did we eat some serious meat we ate till we were stuffed. Ringside is touted as a top 10 steakhouse in the country and it didn't disappoint. Poor Frank even passed on dessert he was so full! Larry even tossed in an oddball Gwynn (that I don't have already) as well as some homebrewed/made Oregonian drinks and chocolates. A very nice touch indeed and I'm now very thankful I mentioned something about going to Portland on this board.
As the King mentioned, the discussion was pretty cool. Not often do I get to sit around a table with some experienced card collectors and talk baseball and cards. It was neat for me to pick their brains in terms of how they go about putting their sets together. And if any of you guys know the sets Larry and Frank have, it's quite impressive. I felt a bit out of their league, but our passion for cards were the same.
Anyways, my wife thought it was kinda neat that I could out to dinner and not even know any of the guys there beforehand. That's got to say something about the guys on this boards.
I really wish I could make it to Cleveland, but I hope to meet up with other registry guys as I make the rounds around this country of ours.
Larry/Frank- hope to see you guys soon but in the meantime, I'll see you on the boards!
