NTC questions on authentication

I have my eye on a Morgan in an NTC slab. I have no illusions where the coin is concerned, I know what I am getting. But what I need to know, aside from over grading, are they accurate at authentication. I.e. can I be sure the coin is not fake?

Nope all grading companies make mistakes.

Anything that isn't NGC or PCGS should be considered raw.

Not that they don't make mistakes, but they'll pay for their mistakes.

  • Relayer.... I wouldn't go that far.... what you're saying is that about 40 people in the word know what's real and what's fake... I'd give the other companies with decades of experience some credit....and 50% of the board members here some too.....mmmmmmm....image

If you're concerned, why not ask the seller to guarantee the coin is genuine? That way you're covered.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
