PSA grading service question on autographs

Is the $20 autograph service for cards that are already certified by a company (ie. SP Legendary Cuts autographs) or for autographs that I've obtained in person on a regular card, ie. Tony Gwynn's signature on a 1987 Topps card?

Also:

Anyone out there send in 3x5 cards to PSA for slabbing before? Is this new?

"PSA will encapsulate signed items such as 3x5's (index cards), postcards, cuts and checks (the smaller sized ones) if, of course, these items will fit into the current selection of holders. The signed items will not be graded but they will be authenticated with a PSA/DNA serial number placed on the PSA label. Collectors may choose this service if they feel the PSA holder will add to the presentation of the piece or if they feel the PSA holder can help protect the signed item over time. Please call if you have questions about this service."

It's for autographs obtained in-person, that is not already certified like the example you gave.

I believe PSA can now slab items up to 5" x 7". At least, that's what they told me recently.

  • Autograph inserts and cards certified my a card manufacturer - after 1997 - can be graded as a regular card. Third party autographs and certified autographs from 1997 and earlier are subject to the PSA/DNA fees.

  • I am a bit confused now. Is PSA/DNA still doing the $20 deal where you give them the card, they authenicate the auto, then turn it over to PSA for grading/slabbing?

I checked the website and could find no mention of it anymore.

    Thanks

  • Yeah, that's still the deal to my knowledge. I sent 5 in recently and am getting ready to send in about 20 for the service. Check the front page of PSA and hit the link that says "One Great Combination" with the '65 Mantle.
  • Ahhh. Many thanks. I wonder why it is not on the PSA/DNA website? Either way, great service for $20.

    Thanks
