How do you think ANACS graded these two coins?

1. 1807 Penny

2. 1815 Eighteenpence

I'll tell you folks the grades in a day or two.

(EDITED: Sorry the 1807 is a Penny not a Halfpenny, my mind was in Halfpenny mode when I posted this thread).

Nice coins Oh noble relic! I guess 65 and 64-both very contact free, the first with a little verdegris, the second with a few rim contact marks-I love them!
I'm the last person who should be guessing but I couldn't resist.image

    (1) MS-65 - a beauty in spite of the ugly mug. Really nice Britannia.

    1d. - MS62RB

18d. - MS63? Could be AU58 under the scope. Too much flash to tell if there's a wee bit o' rub.

Of course, each should look much nicer in-hand. image

    1. Uncirculated details, Net XF40. Corrosion.
    2. AU details, Net VF35. Altered surfaces, cleaned.

ANAS is on my bad list for royally screwing up an order.

Both are decent coins and my opinions are based on the pictures and some speculation as to what the coin may look like in person. The first should go at least MS62 Red Brown, possibly higher if there are no issues. I rarely see the 1807 1d in this grade. I think it is significantly tougher than the 1806.

The second is harder to grade because of the picture. It looks MS and probably looks better in person. Probably MS64. Thanks for sharing...did you take the pictures before sending them out?

What the heck, I'll hijack Michael's thread.

Yes, tough day. I have to call a parent back because she is wondering about her son's 'not handing in homework' comment I made on his report card for last quarter. Another teacher told me she, the parent, is going to complain that I never told her, the parent, he was missing homework. She is going to want me to call her everytime her some doesn't do his homework. Look, this kid is in my advanced Math 8 class. I have 92 students every day. I'm required to give H.W. 4 days a week and I'll be damned if I'm calling home everytime a kid doesn't do his homework. When are these parents going to realize their kid has to take some responsibility. I swear, some parents want you to hold their kid's hand. I feel part of my duty is to prepare these kids for high school, there is no way a high school teacher is going to call if a student misses a homework, or two, or twenty.

    Aethelred:

I am curious... what were you expecting for grades for those two coins? If there are no surface issues and it is only color on the 1d, then I think 62 is too low of a grade.

I still think coin two may look better in person... just some questions and thoughts from the cheap seats.image

I'm back, had a little fella in the hospital for a couple of days.

I was expecting a 63 on teh 18d., but I was not sure about the Penny because I thought the color was a little odd. I thought it would net grade or go 62-63.
