any college collectors?

I'm a new member here and want to know if there are any other college collectors out there. I collect cards, autographs, and jerseys of former Gator players, and other memorabilia relating to the Gators. I'd like to hear about other people's college collections and maybe trade if we can help each other out.

I started collecting football cards of former Gators in 1991. I still need some regional and oddball issues - I'll be posting a wantlist soon. Recently I've gotten into jerseys. I just bought a Lomas Brown Lions game-used jersey and a team-issued Gator jersey from the '92 Gator Bowl.

Glad to be here on the boards and look forward to getting to know you guys.

  • I try and collect basketball memoribilia from Loyola University in Chicago. My prize of that particular collection is a game used Spurs jersey from the Spurs 1985 #1 pick Alfrederick Hughes, from Loyola. I have some other stuff from the 70's, mostly team photos and such. I also have an 8x10 autographed photo of 1972's #1 overall pick Larue Martin of the TrailBlazers, another Loyola Alum. I also have the 25th anniversary pennant of their 1963 National Championship team. Not much to collect though in the past 20 years or so. It's been tough going, we're looking at another 20-loss season. Sucks for me since I graduated in 1999 I've never seen a winning team during my undergrad years or since.

    Welcome, gator guy. Got these?

    Gators

The list is far from complete, but I'm working on it.

  • Yes, I have those but thanks for asking. I love the look of those old cards! I do need some oddball Bernie Parrish stuff - Kahn's, National City Bank, etc. Also need Williams Portraits for Barry Brown (Colts), Don Chandler, Larry Gagner (Steelers), Bobby Joe Green, and Steve Spurrier (49ers). I hardly ever see Williams Portraits for sale anywhere - anybody where I can find them?

I used to collect basketball cards of alums from my alma mater, University of Cincinnati, but I got sick of spending my money for cards of whiny underachieving thugs.

No such details will spoil my plans...

  • I collect former NC State players in football and basketball. Not a long list but some nice cards to be had anyway.
  • Hey BigKid,
When my son was born, his hair was a dark shade of red. People would see him and say, "What beautiful auburn hair he has!" And I would reply, "You can call it red, you can call it chestnut, call it anything EXCEPT AUBURN!"

wufdude - I was thinking of starting an N.C. State basketball player set, glad to hear you are a fan. They had another big win tonight over FSU, and now we can look forward to the Duke game.
  • i collect any UT cards of guys, as long as theyre pictured in the Longhorns uni
  • I pretty much collect anything that pops up on ebay with a reference to UConn athletics. I've also accumulated boxes full of cards of former bball players....it started to get ridiculous, so over the past couple months i've limited myself to just collecting various autographs. and items that are at least 50 years old.

I've got to admit it's hard to stay away from oddball stuff, last week i really wanted to buy a life size statue of jim calhoun made out of legos. unfortunately the fiance pretty much said it was jimmy or her, i'm still questioning if i made the right decision.....you'd think being an alum herself, she would appreciate the importance of that statue in our house.

I got a LOT of grief because of the whole UF thing.

the ones on their RVs that play rockytop when
    you hit them!

  • I collect University of Michigan and Michigan State Alumni cards. I have a Chris Webber master set registered now.
  • aro13....unfortunately, that list is pretty short right now! Hard to believe that Googs is our only guy in the NBA now but that should change soon. I've picked up some nice David Thompson and Tom Burleson graded cards lately and occassionally I'll see the Thurl Bailey and Spud Webb cards from the early Fleer set. Nice to know there is a fellow Pack fan on here. Are you an alumnus as well?

    gatorcollector--

Heck yeah, I'm a college collector. Trying to build a '55 AA set
(see my new sig below), and I also have a small collection of Michigan
football ticket stubs & programs. My favorite item would have to be a
ticket stub from the 1927 Michigan/Ohio State game, the first meeting
between the two at Michigan Stadium. I also have an oddball item -- a
postcard from 1907. On the front is a campus picture from UofM, and
other than an address in Massachusettes, is written: "Football Nov. 16
    - 07 R.M. University of Michigan 0 University of Pennsylvania 6".
I guess back in those days that's how you got the scores...

    BTW, welcome to the boards!
  • I'm a collector of University of Tennessee memoralbilla. Like CW I too am trying to collect the 1955 AA set although not in high grade. I think its pretty cool the first player in that set is from UT. I have every ticket stub for every game that I have attended since 1988 which is every home game except for 2 since 1988 even though I also have those as well though not stubs but full tickets. I have a great collection of items from the 1998 National Championship season (including some grass from Neyland Stadium when we beat FLORIDA in ot) sorry for the low blow but could not resist!! That was my freshman year in college andI was one of the many students on the field that day. If anyone has any former Vols for sale lmk.

wufdude - Not an alumni, just a fan. Just won a David Thompson rookie tonight. Hopefully, Julius Hodge will stay another year before going to the NBA. What is going to happen with Josh Powell next year? Is he eligible to come back? Imagine what a starting front line of Hodge, Powell and Melvin would have looked like this year! Oh, well, I got 200-1 odds in Vegas on State winning the tournament. That was right after the Michigan loss, I wonder what the odds are now?
  • Josh Powell is actually playing somewhere in Europe so he's done. We've got a nice recruiting class coming in next year. One kid, Cedric Simmons, is going to be a beast. 6'-9" with about a 7' wing span who can hit the 3. He should fit real well in our offense. If Hodge stays around, we could have another outstanding year next year.

Good luck on your bet! If we're hitting 3s, you neveer know what could happen! I actually don't see a real dominant team this year so it may be possible for someone to fly under the radar all the way to the championship.
