Receiving coins delievered in the cold

I received a bunch of slabbed coins I won on eBay. Being in MI it is freaking cold. I don;t know how long my package was in the freezing mailbox. I don't know if there is a good method of unwrapping cold coins. Seems when I open them they tend to steam up. Wondering if that's going to do anything.

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.

  • Let it warm up in the refrigerator first... I dunno, maybe that'll help *shrug* Anyone got a better suggestion?

Just warm it up slowly. If you think it's very cold or it's very massive then throw a blanket over it.

Are they steamin up on the inside????

If not, then don't worry about it.

  • Interesting. I live in Anchoarge (that's in Alaska y'all) and I've gotten coins in bubble mailers at - 20 F and
haven't experienced the steaming up effect. Mail is delivered while I'm at work so it sits out a bit.

Yes, I know the steaming affect on slabs- you have to let them warm up for a while before you can look at them. I have noticed also that on NGC slabs the white plastic insert shrinks up and is loose and rattly in the holder until warms up and expands. mike
  • Slip them in a ziplock bag outside in the cold and squeeze as much air out as you can. Then when you bring them inside and start letting them warm up any condensation that forms will form on the outside of the ziplock and safely away from the slabs. Once the slabs and coins are up to room temperature you can remove them from the bag.
  • insulate your mailbox - or get a PO box for coins - they aren't that expensive for a small one.
  • Move to Florida...you would do that if you really loved your coins.
  • Do not move to Florida!!! The salt air and foul weather will make them all turn green!image
