Sweet Spot Classics is an awesome product!

Just got my direct shipment and had to open a box. First box yielded five patches but no AUTO (1:24) so I had to go for a second box to get my auto. In the second box I got a Roberto Clemente pants card #/275 and a Yogi Berra AUTO #/65. Cards are nice although I'm not too big on the black and white with browning effect. Lots of hits per box with short prints, patches, and then the big hits. Even you vintage guys would like this stuff.

just a bit of info for those who don't know...the "patch" cards are not real game worn pieces but
cards conjured up by UD to take the place of cards that are actually worth something. You may
have pulled some nice cards in the second box but this is supposed to be a higher end product and
autographs that pull 1 in evey other box is a joke. There aren't even any rookies in this product.

I would boycott UD products until they prove that they are commited to bringing real value to collectors
    instead of these fabricated cards.

  • I disagree Joe,
The patches were all numbered between 75 and 230, so they'll still fetch some solid coin. This is going to be one of the best bang for your buck products on the market. I got a DiMaggio #/75 patch and a Duke Snider #/75 patch. Also a Shoeless Joe 1919 World Series patch, Ty Cobb 1909 WS patch and a few other really nice ones. Beats the heck out of last year's classic patches with the likes of George Foster and Fred Lynn which were unnumbered. Even the box without the AUTO and Clemente pants card will bring pretty close to my box price (at least direct).

Cards are starting to drop on ebay. jersey cards that is. i have noticed last year i would get 25+ for a good player jersey now they bringing 5-15$ even #d ones.i sold a ladainian tomlinson patch card last year for 75$ #d to 75. this year about the same product ,box price was up there. card #d to 50. i got 13$ for it. I think people are just starting to chase the #d auto's now. card companies going to have to jazz up the jersey cards, bc they are slippin.

  • the Berra auto and Clemente pants are the two best cards in the case...I wouldn't go back for any more...sell the rest sealed

Agreed, you certainly drained that case, it will be interesting to see what your customers pull. You pull
that Jordan out of sweet spot too? LOL

I avoid Upper Deck...because once the "case card" is hit...the rest of the stuff is pretty much crap.
  • kuhlmannkuhlmann Posts: 3,326 ✭✭
That can be said for donruss classics also!! one big hit per case is what the order product seems to say!!!!

The low average value of any given box is why I don't open UD boxes anymore. But this is one of the most beautiful sets they've put out. I'll have to pick up at least a base set, though I'll probably forego the SPs. The SPs show "Firsts" in a player's career, such as McGwire being the first to hit 70 Homers, or Warren Spahn being the first lefty Cy Young winner. The DiMaggio is funny, because it just notes the first time he was benched. Is that an honorific?

The autos are always the highlights of Sweet Spot sets for me. Some new names this year like Steve Carlton and Yogi Berra. New manager cards like Mauch, Alou, Tanner and McKeon. New non-HOF stars like Suhr (who died just last month), and Oliva. Even a Negro League star, Ted "Double-Duty" Radcliffe. This has some good stuff for Phillies collectors, too. A Danny Ozark autograph (manager of Phillies division winners in the 70s), and a Harry Kalas autograph (HOF announcer). I've been meaning for year to send Harry a ball or something for him to sign, but it's great that he has a card now.

to me this looks like every other set UD puts out! As a matter of fact it looks like the last
box of UD (legendary cuts), I opened...wood cards with gold foil! They are just churning
out the same stuff and giving us bad odds to pull anything. Im sorry but today a box that
costs 100-120 dollars should contain an autograph. Are we really to believe that these
fabricated cards justify the 12 dollar per pack price?

Can someone name me an upper deck product in 2003 that was amazing?

  • I don't think I drained the case at all, and I don't want to get the label of being one of those dishonest card store owners that would ever try to do that. There will still be an AUTO every other box, and Yogi is probably one of the top 30% when it comes to pricing for these cards, so I would doubt it's the best card in the case. As a card store owner who has sold a ton of Upper Deck products I would say that the Sweet Spot/Sweet Shot brand has by far been the best return on unopened price. I sold about 10 boxes of Sweet Shot basketball and only two were lemons, there were probably 7 or 8 AUTO's pulled (far more than the stated 1:12 packs) as well as Lebron and Jordan jerseys and Carmelo, Darko, and Bosh Rc's. I sold two boxes of Sweet Spot Football and two AUTO's were pulled, Montana and Carson Palmer. These boxes will be my first sales of baseball Sweet Spot, but based on my two boxes it is off to a great start.

  • how can they say their autos come at a 1:24 pack ratio and then only seed them into every other pack? is that not illegal?
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
the autos are 1 in every 24 packs....thats one auto for every 240 dollars you plop down...a box
contains 12 packs, for 120 dollars you get 4 fabricated patch cards and a few GU...most of the
cards are numbered from 50-300 which isn't very rare today. I have yet to see a real patch
and many of the jersey cards of players who played in the 40's and 50's look like they came
from jerseys made a few years ago. Despite my pessimism, a few collectors both here
and the beckett board have liked the product.

    Good Luck

    Loves me some shiny!
  • Let's ask this guy what he thinks of the product. Or this guy, or this guy. Let's wait to see what the first Giuliani goes for, can't find one yet.

You know Im curious....after that first box rip how were you so sure that you would pull an auto out
    of a second box? Hmmm...

    Kevin
  • I'm sorry Kall Malone but I don't think those Upper Deck created patch cards are much to get worked up over.
So what if they are numbered?? They don't have any true connection to a real jersey.
They are another tired gimmick from a company who is running out of ideas.
And pointing out a few nice hits on Ebay doesn't prove anything.
Of course if I get something nice out of a box I would be pumped but that doesn't mean that the overall product isn't cr*p.
I did buy a few boxes but I realize that the chances of me getting anything worthwhile are slim and none.
I buy new stuff because it's fun to rip but the money I make back on Ebay selling it shows what it's really worth.
Put those awesome patches up and see the big money they sell for(lol)

Off topic kind of....during lunch today I pulled a True 1 of 1 George Brett Auto from Diamond Kings.

  • You mean it wasn't numbered 32/50 but it's a 1/1 because there is only one card numbered 32??(lol)
I love people like that on Ebay.
    Nice pull! image
