More fun and challenging, auctions or buying from dealer?

Seems to me like auctions is part of the fun. Picking up the phone and placing an order is like you are just "buying" something. Any other points of view?

Currently attempting the 12 Coin US Gold Type Set and the 20th Century US Major Coin Type Set. Completed a Franklin Half Proof Set.

    Speaking strictly on the 'golden' side,... I can pick up the phone and dial Kitco, Monex or a number of others and place an order at a whim, but I really do find it truely exciting to follow an auction to the end when it's a piece I've been heart throbing after.
