  • Neil - Unfortunately, I dont have any extra's either, but know you will love the TG's once you start with them. They are my favorite set by far. Good luck with the quest.

  • Neil, why not pick up a few cheap ones on Ebay? Maybe 6's and 7's just to see how you like them.

It's not secret that I love these cards. It's a 60 card gorgeous set chock full of the stars of the day! You will like it!
  • Hi Neil,

I think I'll have to chime in because I started building a Giants set back in October. It's a great looking set, with plenty of cards available on EBAY. If fact many times the big dealers like dsl, will list 20 at a time. I've just crossed the 90% complete barrier with a GPA around 8.5, not bad for 4 months work. I'm basically buying commons in 8 and stars in 9.

If you are going to build the set graded I would shoot for 8's. 8's are plentiful and not high dollar. Commons go for around $15 and stars like Kaline, Spahn, and Gibson can all be had for under $20. In fact there are very few cards(still talking 8's) that will break the $50 mark. Those would be Koufax, Mantle, Mays, Boyer, Skowron and Elston Howard( the last 3 all being Single Prints with lower populations). And don't think 9's are out of the question, they have a good population and stars are still priced under $100.

Building a raw set is also an option. Once I started building the set I began to look for raw cards at shows. And amazingly there were quite a few. With many in good shape. At one show I bought about 20 cards, but these were cherry picked from an inventory of easily 100+ cards from various dealers. Commons were $1 each. I set the best one's in for grading, the Boyer came back a 7 because of the always problematic centering. But I did get a Billy Williams PSA 9. So I think building a raw NM set is also quite viable.

A fun set, and probably the only set I will ever build from the 60's.

And lastly, I do have a few graded and raw extras, shoot me a PM

    Good Luck!

    Neil,

Shoot a PM to LuxuryWines. If he has any a Giants available, you can probably work out a trade since he is working on building a 1972 Topps set in PSA 8. I got my 64 Giants Koufax a few months back from him for a bunch (I mean A BUNCH) of 72 commons.
