45 years in storage - Some Good Luck!

I included a '58 Topps FB Jimmy Brown rookie in a recent submission and got a PSA 8! Forty-five years in a cigar box didn't hurt it much! Unfortunately, the rest of that set varies (in my eye) with mostly EX-NM. I can't afford to grade them all so I'll continue to cherry pick these sets.

Also got results from some '61 Topps BB duplicates: Maris #2 - PSA 8, Yaz #287 - PSA 8, another Yaz #287 - PSA 8, Ted Kluszewski #65 - PSA 8.

I handled the 1958 BB quite a bit as a kid, and with that soft '58 cardboard, it was hard to keep NM corners. However, the set IS complete and fun to go through in their penny sleeves. I sent in #150 Mantle which was beautifully centered. I was hoping for a 7 but got a PSA 6. Similarly with Mantle/Aaron #418 - PSA 6, and Clemente YTL - PSA 5 but was hoping for a 6 (it had a slight stain).

My 1959 Topps BB set is in better shape similar to the 1961's. But I can't afford to grade them at this time.... besides, I wouldn't want to sell them anyway! Unfortunately, I have very few duplicates from this set because I traded them away as a kid to get whatever card # I was missing.

I do have a lot of duplicates in the 1960 Topps BB but nothing spectacular so far: Yaz #148 - PSA 7(disappointed) and Maris #377 - PSA 7.

The best results are from the cards I didn't like as a kid - the '61-'62 Fleer Bask. I've graded about 100 of these so far and registered the set under RTB.

No doubt. What's with that? You weren't invited to the card flipping tournaments? image
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
  • My friends either weren't avid baseball fans or they didn't collect cards.... so no temptation for flipping tournaments! Luckily I found a few kids away from my neighborhood to trade with. These kids also liked to try to complete sets, putting more value on a hard to find common than a duplicate star. Of course the luckiest thing of all was my parents honoring my request to not throw them away. I never thought they would be worth any money, but I knew how hard it was to complete a set and I wanted to keep 'em!
