Nickolai, you da man!

I got these today from our good friend Nick. My apologies in advance for the inadequate photography; every piece that follows is BU or nearly so and I didn't really capture the brilliant surfaces. That said, he sent:

Israel, 10 Sheqalim, 1984, KM #137 (Theodor Herzl)
image

and
Israel, 100 Sheqalim, 1985, KM #146 (Hanukka issue)
image

and
Israel, 1/2 New Sheqel, 1988, KM #174 (Hanukka issue)
image

and, for you bi-metallists,
Israel, 10 New Sheqalim, 2002, KM #270
image

and, not least at all, from the City of Smolensk, the monument of Kutuzov, Napoleon's great opponent at the battle of Borodino
image

Thanks Nick! what a great package to open and a great giveaway... imageimage

Are we talkin' about Nick in Bulgaria? (koko70)?

I think they are referring to Nick in Israel.

    Oh. image

I haven't heard too much from Nickolai (Daskalov, aka koko70) lately. I think he only has a computer at work. I miss some of the ways he could murder the English language but still make himself understood. Nice fella- I sent him an AU+ Brit 1901 threepence or sixpence not long ago, for his daughter, Victoria (who like our little Victoria was also born in 2001- same week, I think). Dimitri had sent me an upgrade (or maybe that was the one I got from wybrit- anyway, I sent the pre-upgrade coin to Nick.

Nick still posts occasionally. I expect work and daddy duty have tied up a lot of his spare time.

  • Vern, you are very welcome!imageimage And thanks for the great pictures, that show the coins in a better way, I think, than them look in a real life!

Thanks for all the compliments, guys: you are all really "made me that day" image (reverse translation from Hebrew to English) I hope Rob, that I have murdered English enough in that sentence, to insist you on keep waiting another post from me with the same impatience, you wait it from our colleague from Bulgaria!image

And, Askari you are right about your assumption image What can I do?!image

Shipcoin Nick, I do remember thinking to myself, when I sent you those coins last time:

"Hmm, how interesting- now we have two Nickolais- I'll have to remember to keep 'em straight in my head."

    So much for that thought.

With you being from Haifa, and posting more often and recently, you should have sprung to my mind first. image

It looks like Nick is a pirate, following in the tradition of Greentoe, by hijacking his own thread!!!

  • Very nice coins, I like the bi-mettalic, is that a date palm? I reckon mine should be arriving soon Nickolai, I am away from home on travel right now, but they may be waiting for me.......image
  • Mike I still thinking that the thread was not mine image

Wayne, thanks you did the great thing for me, trust me, please! But Askari is right it isn't so easy to be an active participant here image

Glenn, I also hope you already got the package, but all the packages are not the same ones image hope it will add some fun to the game. And as for the palm you are right--it is really date one! image - and it is one of my favourite designs of local coins, and BTW it is the only one Israeli circulating coin that has its legends in four (4!) languages at the same time--- looks like a as nice puzzle for Jester, isn't it Mike? Do you know what is the fourth language on that coin?image

The text on the top of the date palm side is ancient hebrew, modern below.

I can transliterate it but then wouldn't have a clue as to what it means image
  • Yes Spoon, you are almost right image ... just some clarification for Dimitri image the fourth language is Aramaic-- the language, which was used by Ancient Jews in usual life--for conversation purpoces.
Interesting, that in our days it used for matrimonical purpoces, thus our marriage agreement with Anna is written at this language, and I need say , that I don't understand anything at this document!imageimageimage
