  • I usually find 1 or 2 silver coins a year, not many around here in circulation.

I mostly find silver half dollars. I have only found 2 silver quarters (1939 and 1964) in changes in the last several years. I also will run into a dime every now and then. I find silver halves at least 4 or 5 times a year. That is a denomination that folks just don't normally check.
  • You can find silver dimes if you buy like a $500 box the ones with the rolls in see through plastic. You can just spot the silvers and open only those "rolls". You won't find very many, but they are there. Halves if you can order them from the fed you'll get some good stuff. Asside from that it's pretty hard to find silver quarters or nickels. If your bank is the one that has their money drawer visible and you spot something the teller will usually give it to ya.
  • last yr. I only found one war nickel and one buffalo in my rolls. I also appears the older dates are getting scarcer already. (30s, 40s in nickels)

Most people don't have a clue, and thus spend old silver unknowingly.

Finding silver coins in circulation is a sign of tough economic times. People spend whatever they have around the house. Since it is only 4x face to sell it, if they have only a bit, they will spend it as the gas is more expensive than the difference.

If you find silver coins at ONE store, it means someone has been burgled. Kids steal the coins and spend them. This is rarer now as many of the convenience stores are now owned by Asians and Indians who are not EVER careless with the cash. However, one time I lucked into a grocery that had some seated stuff back in the late 70's. Caucasian clerks so fairly careless.

In the shop, I can not COUNT the times (during economic downturns) that people would bring in silver coins to sell and would sell the dimes first, quarters second, halves last.......and DOLLARS only in dire emergency. It was a hassle to have to figure each one out and then have em tell me to take "some" quarters. They KNEW what amount they NEEDED. And they knew how much I was paying....BUT...still had to go through the motions of dime-quarter-half-dollar anyhow.

    Sean ...... reality sucks.

Do your own research. I have. Just last week while shopping for a duvet with the wife, we were about to purchase one at Gottschalks. The clerk told us about the better selection at Target.

FOOLISH move. Her paycheck is dependent on Gottschalks making sales.

On the other side, try an Asian store. Ever get too much change? Bet not. Ever get directed to another store with the same merchandise? Not likely.

I am not prejudiced. I am ......POSTjudiced.

    I form opinions AFTER experiences.

(The Gottschalks example is not the lone one.) Public school kids from our culture that accepts and condones and CULTIVATES divorce, no religious belief, single parent households, and political correctness are fairly stupid victims of very stupid parents.

We have a society in decline and I don't like it any more than you do, but when WE were recent immigrants, we were a hell of a lot more careful with our money.

Speaking as a caucasian ..... and not too optimistic or proud of it.
  • The only silver ones I get is during the winter months and they are all Canadian!image
