1985 Topps Mini's??

Board,
Does anyone have any info on these? I was searching around the Registry looking for another set to start (I like the 75 Topps Mini's, but the set is a little large for me). I went onto EBay and there are a few of the 85 Topps Mini's on there. Most of the auctions state "only 100 made". Is this true? Also, does anyone know how big the set is (same as it's full size brother??)

Any help anyone can provide on this set is most appreciated!

the set was to test cutting techniques at the o pee chee plant. no all the cards in the set don't have a "mini version". i think about 120 cards have "minis" but could be wrong?i do believe that only 100 of each that were choosen were printed?probably sheet c?

I have a bunch of the Phillies cards from this set graded.

There are approximately 100 made, give or less. Some are blank-backed, some have the regular back. I think most of the blank-backed ones are sheet cut. The rest are not. I do not have all the information on the set in front of me, but I thought that there were 132 minis, enough for one full sheet.

It's a fun set -- and if you are careful, you can get the commons for around $10 a piece, which is a good deal, given their rarity.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The info. that jackstraw gave is correct. The other interesting thing about this issue is that some have blank backs and some are stat backs. They used to be considered very rare and were extremely expensive, since ebay I've been able to find them for much better prices.

There are currently a handful of GAI 8 to 8.5s on ebay.
  • Here is some information I got from a reliable third party a while back. I can't validate it as the gospel for the 1985 mini's, but it fits what I have heard about the set to date. Enjoy!

here's the story: the cards were printed in sheets
at the OPC factory in canada. only 2 of the sheets
were done (that's why there's no mcgwire or certain other
stars. there is a schmidt, carlton and ryan
    though.)

they were printed to commemorate the 1975 mini cards
    but were never released.

about 7 or so years later all the cards appeared on
the market. all the cards were cut from these 100
    sheets.

out of the 100 sheets half were blank back. and out
of the 50 or so blank backs, there were 25 of one
card stock and 25 of another (apparently a test to see
    which card stock to use).

and there was one sheet of each ONLY printed with
the red ink on the back (not the green) making these
cards the only ones in existance.

    so here's the short.....

    1985 mini regular back.......about 50 printed.
    1985 mini blank back "A".....about 25 printed.
    1985 mini blank back "B".....about 25 printed.
1985 mini RED ink back.......ONLY 1 of each made.
