2009 Lincoln Design Change

Will the Lincoln penny design be changed after 2009? Seems I read somewhere it had to be changed by law every one hundred years? If this is indeed the case, how do you see this impacting the wheat and memorial Lincolns?

While there are rumors that the Lincoln cent may be either redesigned or discontinued in 2009, no law mandates a change every 100 years. There is a law that requires 25 years between design changes.

Due to the fact that over 500 billion Memorial cents were minted, I do not expect a significant premium for thm unless copper prices soar (pre-1982 Lincolns are 95% copper.) However, a design change or discontinuation would make very high grade examples more attractive to collectors.
