Cameo Franklins and one with error- close-up pic added

Since I am new to Franklins and this is my first adventure with proofs are these cameo? Deep Cameo? The fields have more of a haze in person than the pictures show. I figured they had to be worth $6 each and the strike through looks pretty neat too! mike image

They both look like they have a 50% shot at cameo. Of course, that percentage might increase or decrease depending on what the reverses look like.

No die crack here! Strike through image you can see the edge of the wire sticking through at both edges of the rim. Any idea of what it's worth? mike

Does anyone know of the value of a strike thru error such as this? mike image
    • Mike - is the line on the one on the left a die crack?
    • darktonedarktone Posts: 8,437 ✭✭✭
No it's not a die crack it's a strike thru of what looks like a thin piece of wire imbedded in the coin. mike

Dunno about the value with a strike through like that but I'd be willing to bet it's worth alot more than 6$ image Nice coin!

Strike thru is a common & low value error but with the wire still embedded in it makes it worth lots more. Best value I can give you is that I paid $105 for a ANACS MS64 Silver Eagle with several wires imbedded in the rev.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

These are difficult errors to locate in PROOF, such as yours. Pretty dramatic. I'd get it holdered under "error" tier.

      Mike-

Did you say the wire is still sticking up on the side? Can you image that for us? For an approximate value, email Fred@fredweinberg.com, or Mike@byersnc.com. Both are members here, too.

For a proof error such as that, assuming it is wire and the wire is still present, I would guesstimate a retail value of maybe $200.00. Of course I could be wrong and it may be worth only $10.00 or $1,000.00. image

Thanks Rampage, I'll work on an image. mike image
    • That is interesting. Is there any doubling? It sort of looks like GOD is doubled, maybe it is a reflection or something.

No doubling- just looks like it. Here's the close-up. mike

Nice coins and good pictures. I would call PCGS and NGC to see how they would handle it. It is a strike through without a doubt. I am not sure what the premium would be, but I don't think this is all that common for a proof coin. Whether PCGS or NGC recognize this and attribute the error on the slab is a big question. I am certain that ANACS does. I have a fairly unusual Franklin strike through error that I have sent to them.

As for the grade...tough call without seeing the reverse. I believe that the 62 is the most common in CAM. As for the value... even a tougher call.

After it is graded, take it to one of the larger shows for some opinions.
