Well, from my non-expert opinion, the toning looks real from the picture posted on the web - THe price seems way too high for that particular "look", and as far as PCI, there is a toned coin collector/dealer who had all his toners slabbed in PCI holders because they put his name on the holder, so if its one of his former coins, that's why its in a 3rd world slab, My philosphy is you gotta buy the coin, not the plastic, but here you gotta see this one in the flesh to know how nice it is (or is not).

This type of toning wouldn't surprise me coming from a mint set with the cardboard holders...
Lucy, just a quick question - I am not forming any opinion on the coin's toning (but I agree that it can't be MS67.)
If this toning is similar to that coming form a mint set with the cardboard holders, why couldn't that have been simulated by someone recently? I mean, it doesn't take long to tone a coin that way. I put an 81-O Morgan outside my window in the sun face down on a piece of cardboard, and it got toned after a few months. Several people have looked at it and told me things like "That toning sure is nice and original" - which it Absolutely is NOT!
I'm sure someone with more knowledge then me could add chemicals or cover up parts of the coin for different parts of time or something to make different colors or different looking toning. I'm just saying that I think it would be easy for someone to do intentionally if they tried with a group of 10-20 coins, and once they make some good, keep making more. To turn a $50 coin into a $3000 coin, I think some people would try that!

I think the toning is real. I've bought and sold them from old collections which have toned like that.

Just curious, many are saying way over graded. Is this a holder bias? With that pic I don't feel anybody can say way over graded. The hair above the forehead is indeed VERY weak. I see a couple marks but a 67 isn't going to be perfect. I wouldn't like it for any high grade due to what appears to be very flat hair above the forehead. I own a toned 67 and one of the things I like about it is very strong and detailed hair in this area. It does have a couple small ticks under the eye but that's about it. This coin linked IMO no one can tell if it's overgraded. Hey Coinguy1 would like this post. Too many people form a bias opinion as soon as they see what the term I see used these days and makes me laugh "Off Brand Slab." I understand all this but folks.... make a decision on the coin.

Toning is real..I actually have a couple that are like that on the reverse only...They came out off a tube that had been stored for some time...They were the bottom coin...
Grade looks a little high..more like a 64...hard to tell.
Just curious, what are you seeing to say ms62? BTW, I don't like the coin for 67 either. But the pic isn't clear enough for me to try and say a grade for sure. I see a couple hits on the nose, couple light ones in the face, but 65's have this much. I admit I haven't studied the image.... sometimes if I have the time I will take an image and invert it and I can see the marks better.

I won't try to put a grade on either one of these Peace Dollars. Its a tough series to grade properly in hand never mind from a picture.
There will be more and more Morgans and Peace Dollars showing up in PCI Holders, not only for the fact that you can get your name on the holder, but to get that 1 or 2 point bump in grade. There are many nicely toned Dollars out in the market place in PCI holders, but anyone that is interested in the grade as much as the toning need to check out the coins real well.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

Again nice original looking - but in an offbrand slab - why? Overgraded no doubt

I think it's real and I think the reverse looks great.
Besides, if it was doctored they would have done the obverse to look like the reverse.

This guy says just about EVERY toned coin is AT.
<< <i>Is this a holder bias? >>
Nope, not from me. I call it giving a honest opinion. No matter what is holding it, MS67 does cut it.

True but, not this imperfect.
