69er's Flag at half mast

We lost a 69'er in Dave Read. He seems to think his daughters college fund is more important than cards. Go figure.

On a more serious note we will miss you Dave you have been a great asset to the 69 crusade. Your set was a wonderful speciman. I do appreciate you and your Class. Good luck with the college fund I just sent my last tuition payment in for my daughter this semester. She graduates in spring with an English degree and a criminal justice degree. 50,000.00 later not including the 25,000 in scholarships and we have a grad. She is contenplating law school so maybe I get to start all over again in the fall. Anyway good luck.

  • Is Dave still collecting other sets?

Sorry to hear Dave Read is getting out of the 1969 set building club. He had built an impressive set. Did he sell the set to another collector or did he break it up?
  • Dave is still hot on the 1973 Topps trail. Seems like a good guy, maybe he'll have to pay for a graduate degree also and he'll be off my back with that set. image
Stan Musial topped the .300 mark 17 times and won seven National League batting titles. A three-time MVP, he played in 24 All-Star Games. Probably, the greatest player who is overlooked and underappreciated.

As far as I know Dave is staying all other sets. I beleive the 69 is the only set he bowing out of.

    John

He is breaking his set up and selling the cards off individually.

  • Best of luck to you Dave! It's always great to know that cards can be an important life's asset. Good to hear though that you'll be sticking around the PSA collecting world. That 8.52 GPA you retired on this set was monumental. Definitely deserves to be amongst the all-time finest.

When he decides to sell them , I foresee blood being spilled.

    Wow! I am really surprised!

He was as serious as they came with the 69 set - even before he started the 73... Wonder if he'll be breaking up the 72 set as well?

Hey - ya know... instead of asking these questions - why don't we just decide what Dave will do and let the rumors fly!image

  • Dave is one of the true class acts on the registry and I will miss watching out for his updates.
  • Dave will be missed. Is he 'fread' from EBay by any chance?

  • When I first read this, I thought Dave was dead! Whoa. Though when he sees his first college bill he might wish he was.
  • Dave should keep the set. It will probably be as good of an investment as anything else he puts the money into.

  • Dave has beaten me up on EBay so many times.
It is a real shame he won't be bidding on '69's any longer.

Seriously, we have 3 little ones (8, 7, 4) and we just had a financial assessment on what we would need to lump sum to put them through school.
Truly frightening. I have to wonder though if the rate of increase in tuition can continue. Will anyone pay $200,000 to go to college and become a kindergarten teacher?
