Mac's first coin is a beauty too! Invitation accepted ,thank you, the thread has more Darkside than US coins as I type this. Let's not overdo it this time, they'll switch the title to "." and create a US-only thread. image

Nice job with the pictures over on the Light Side. Some fantastic stuff that I have not seen here. Why is that ?

A monthly thread needs to be started here with a title that lets newbies like me know what is going on.

  • I was wondering if a kind of permanent ongoing Dark Side coin pictures thread could be created on this forum?

One where our pictures could be uploaded to some space and archived. I add my pictures to threads, but ultimately I have to delete them from my FTP space to make room for other images.

I wonder if we could find a nuetral space and somebody who knows how to do it, load and keep our pictures there--so the thread could always be called up and added to.

Does that even make sense? I'm not much of tech guy.

As long as they are under 50k you can upload them here.

Clank the coin from Switzerland that you had up on the thread was one of the favorites. Where would a person find Swiss coins like that ? I am becoming very fond of them.

Bills pattern coin is a knock out also. Such bold authority is shown by the eagle.

  • Ken--

I found that coin on eBay and used the BIN without a second thought.

Generally, I keep "World Coins" saved as an eBay category--then I do searches for "Switzerland" or other countries of interest.

I also (don't tell anybody) search world coins under NGC, PCGS, ANACS and ICCS. Because it eliminates a lot of garbage. Eliminates some good buys too, I'm sure, but I only have so much time and patience.

That's about all I can tell you. I believe this--if I had come on that coin in a dealer's case at a show, it probably would have been priced beyond what I might have paid.

Shucks I had hope you had a hot shop down on Pike Street I could come up and raid. I have been watching Ebay but nothing has flipped the switch yet.

    Thanks Much.

  • Ken--

There is a coin shop in the Seattle Convention center, where I found my Vatican coin.

Sometimes that place has some cool material. In general he's not too cheap--but he doesn't charge premiums for toning either. If a coin is PQ, you pay just a good, solid price for it.

If you're coming this way--I'd check that place out. And that's the only shop up here I can even think to recommend.

Are you going to be at the Portland ANA?

Will be at the ANA for sure. It looks like Thursday and Friday most likely. May also make it up to Seattle for a quick look around before then also. Just hate the traffic up there though.

Mac, Thanks for the PM. It was much appreciated.

And for all.....Just Fantastic Pictures of your coins....image
