After looking at the PCGS definition, there is more to the story.
The cameo effect is measured by the reflectivity of the surface, or field, of the coin.
The measurement is in inches of reflectivity. The distance when the sharpness of the mirror effect blurs, determines if it is a proof, a cameo or deep cameo.
PCGS and NGC use different standards. PCGS would have 3-5 inches for cameo and 6+ for deep cameo while NGC uses 3-4 for cameo and 5+ for deep cameo. (I may be off an inch, but PCGS has a higher standard). So sometimes a NGC Cameo may not make it as a PCGS cameo and a NGC Deep Cameo won't make it as a PCGS deep cameo.

Relayer, your comments might be correct with respect to whether a coin makes "cameo" or "deep/ultra cameo". But, a coin is either made/struck as a Proof or not and that statement would not apply to whether a coin is a Proof.

True, but equally true is the fact that sometimes a PCGS cameo or deep cameo wont make it as such at NGC.
You are correct as usual. I wasn't clear as to what I meant.
I was referring to a grade as "PR68", "PR68CAM" or "PR68DCAM" (which I called Proof, Cameo, Deep Cameo)
So to be clear, Proof coins can have no designation, or they can be CAMEO or DEEP/ULTRA CAEMO.
And you probably know the extact inches that NGC uses for CAM/UCAM vs. PCGS CAM/DCAM? I thought I remembered correctly from what someone told me, but I can't really remember the values. (Or maybe there are none and it's done by eye, but I think the graders hold their fingers out from the coin to gauge the mirrors?)
