I'm just sitting here listening to Pink Floyd's "the Wall" and...

I was reading the boards reflecting on a couple conversations that I have had with some other coin collecting lunatics and I've come up with something...I have been relying on the "Instant gratification" of buying someone else's coins and putting off submitting my own coins to PCGS. Now the economy submission is at 65 days and it just takes forever to get anything back, and because of that, I've actually found myself caught up in this cycle of buying and not producing.

I have literally hundreds of worthy coins that I have picked up from various places and coin shows and need to send in. What is stopping me I have no idea, but I think enough is enough!

Currently I have 1 submission in at PCGS, a modern economy of 20 coins, #9017137 and it has been there since 12/12/03. I also sent in another pre-1965 economy of 14 coins, #9019869. As of yet, PCGS has not received this submission.

I have decided that my buying days are just about over and that I will be making slabs and not buying them. With the exception of a few good looking coins that I need to buy now and then, I'M DONE!

Sorry dealers.image

Anyone else feel like this?

    "Anyone else feel like this?"

Yes, I felt exactly like you. Then, after a few months of intensive submissions, I decided I would essentially only buy slabbed coins and stop submitting mass quantities. That cycle is moving along and by March I should be in the mood to start submitting heavily again. image

I have starting buying raw coins too, but I still buy the coins I can't make myself. Making my own coins help in two ways, it keeps the price of my sets down, and lets me polish up on my grading skills. The only down side is the grading fees if my coins don't make the cut. I've lost money on worst.

I'm not one to gripe about how long it takes per say, but I have hope that my submissions will return to me someday, hopefully correctly graded.

Washvarieties: November submission received in February...something seems a miss!

Hi Craig, How could I resist. Nice coin I was wondering who uploaded it. I tried to upload my own but can't seem to manage it. I hope you don't mind. Fred image
  • Thanks for all the welcomes and the thoughts on the subject. Since I purchased all for the coins and not the slab, I feel they should cross. Now, if PCGS downgrades and won't cross just because they are NCG slabs, I'll just maintain my registry set with NCG and delete the one I started with PCGS. Thanks again and looking forward to chatting in the future.

PS: I sent them in today! I'll let you know the results.

I love it when I hit highend GEMs with my submissions, it gives me confidence in my ability to know what PCGs looks for in a certian grade....

I love bring freshly graded new coins to the market and to my own collections..........

There's a great deal of satisfaction in finding nice raw coins whether it's from circulation,
a dealer's case, or a proof set. It's not just the rush of getting something for "nothing",
it's the thrill of the hunt and the sense of accomplishment. It's much like the collecting
many of us did as children.
