Why the Big Fuss Over Carson City DMPL Dollars?

Are these now being hyped, promoted, hoarded, seems everyone is now after PCGS DMPL dollars, especially the CC's. They are trading at unrealistic high prices right now IMO, and the majority of them aren't even that nice, in fact most are dogs and aren't even real DMPL's. Just a few years ago, I used to pick through stacks of these at big shows, and maybe 1 in 30 was nice enough to even consider buying. Now even the bottom of the barrel dogs are bringing high prices, especially above MS64. The pops on these coins are relatively high and I don't get what all the fuss is over.

Because certain dealers come on here and hype what they want to make a big market in. You know that as well as many do. JMO of course.

It may be unreasonable and unsustainable demand due to hoarding.

Most offerd are what we used to call gray prooflikes and are not the

tru black and white stuners we used to collect. Also the marks on the devices

and fields seem deeper and more numerous than we would accept in the past.

When the day of reality arrives, those heavily marked up gray cc dollars are going

to be a tough sell. A bit like those washed out, dull, silver type and Commems in 65 and 66 condition.

Almost all CC material, in all grade ranges, is very hot. The VF 1870-CC $20 just went for about $100K in the Heritage sale.

Morgans being what they are, combined with the CC cachet, and you get Legend on here asking for all comers.

The rare date seated CC coins have been going crazy for the last few years and show no sign of letting up.

Seriously, DMPL CC's are just pretty darn cool things. I don't have a problem with the values. It's not all about rarity, you know...

Ain't that the truth! Same pretty much holds true for PL's also, very tough locating nice ones for anywhere near reasonable prices.

Seriously, if collectors feel priced out of the gem DMPL Morgan market, why not do what I have been doing for years - buy DEEP PROOFLIKE Merc dimes, Jeffs, silver Wash quarters, Franklins, Roosies and even wheat cents. You can find some very cool high grade deep prooflike state quarters right now as well for close to face value. You can find many of these coins for as little as $5 at shows if you search hard enough. My guess is we might be as little as just 10-20 years away before these other deep proof like Mint State coins have their day in the sun image Even if they never "take off", they are mega-cool coins to own! One of my personal favorites is the 1970(d) Kennedy half dollar (MINT SET ONLY ISSUE) in spectacular DEEP PROOFLIKE!! MS Ike Dollars are very cool as well in DEEP PROOFLIKE.
