Complete World Series Results on PCGS website

We've posted the complete World Series round two results on the PCGS website. I'd post a link, but I'm too technologically challenged to do it. Where is Carol J when we need her?

We've included a list of the qualifiers and possible qualifiers for the ANA finals.

We also included a list of all round two coins along with the grades of the three dealers who did really well.

Check it out...it's pretty interesting.

Round three will be at the Baltimore show in March and round four will be at Long Beach in June.

Actually, this has been quite an exciting idea.

Its good for the hobby, good for the contestants

and good for the company. Who ever thought it up

    deserves a gold star.

Anyone else find it interesting that out of the 40 coins in the contest that all three graders graded the coin correctly at the same time only 9 times?

I think this speaks tantamount to the subjectivity of grading. Jeff Garrett is one of the best graders that I know, and certainly Bob is up there as well...and even they could only agree 52.5% of the time and were only right together 42.5% of the time.

  • Cake walk coins. Not a single copper coin at all? 1 high End Buff, throw in an MS63 Dull Buff and see how many AU it. Not a single borderline RD/RB Indian or Lincoln. How about a Recolored Indian? You let them off easy.

The contest has been fun to watch, and I'm glad the spread between grades was as tight as it was among the top three. It makes for a good horse race, and like Morris said, it points out the RELATIVE subjectivity of grading.

  • Noticed that on two coins(32 $10 & 1884cc $1) that the graders all agree but PCGS has a different grade. Makes you wonder who is correct?

Scores were much higher in round two. I wonder if this is the result of gradeflation?

Edited to say that I just signed up for round three in Baltimore. I figure that with my first round score, it's sort of like I was in a first generation rattler. I'm going to crack myself out and go for an upgrade!

  • If they offer the contest in Portland, i think I may try both tests. I am a collector but would love to see how I stack up against dealers. Hopefully hopefully there will be some Lincolns and some Nickels in the test.

In the words of Homer Simpson....Wooo Hooo! Still alive for one of the 7 wild card sports for the collector division. Unlikely to survive the cut after the next 2 rounds though!. Where the heck were all the collector participants in Long Beach. The FUN show thrashing we collectors took from the dealers must have scared them off!

Just scanned back through the rest of the posts.

    I'm a dealer???

I don't think so. I go to lots of coin shows. Never set up at any show...not even the local one where tables can be had for $40! I do buy and sell lots of coins though. Selling more than I buy at the current time cause I need to raise a downpayment for a piece of farmland that I want just slightly more than all the stuff I've acquired over the years. I don't know Larry so can't speak for him.

    Thanks for the promotion though!image
