Question re Acetone -- What and Where Do You Buy?

What do you use? Do any national retailers sell it in bulk for cheap?

    just get it at your local hardware store.
  • Make sure its 100% acetone!

  • Home Depot - next to the paint thinner and lacquer thinner. A gallon ought to last you a lifetime. Don't drink it!

    and don't smoke or use it anywhere near a flame!
  • Also check a major paint supply or marine hardware store. Check the labels for additives. EPA has changed several requirements and you need to closely look for any added petroleum products which leave a film and slow drying time. It is not as serious as you think, but it ties into reformulation of lacquer paints and allowing bonding.{Notice vehicles with paint peeled to primer or bare metal?}

    What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • Warning, It's explosive!!!

  • I'll check out Home Depot. I wasn't aware beauty stores would carry 100% acetone, and am leary of nail-polish remover due to additives, but if the girlfriend can find something that says 100% acetone, I'll have her pay for it. Yes!

    Thanks everyone.

    I buy mine in quarts from Walmart. Cheap. You can use a lot, too, as it evaporates quickly.

    Apparently they use 100% acetone for removing the acrylic nails...I got some acetone from the local hair/nail place.

  • You could also try art supply stores, my wife works in an art and frame store and they sell it in small containers all the way up to big ones.
  • Tks.

    Whatever you do, don't bathe your dog in it! (I learned the hard way.)

  • DO NOT use hardware store grade acetone on expensive coins!

    Even tho the label says 100%, it contains traces of organic and inorganic acids and other impurities that can ruin your coins.

    To be safe, get your acetone from a chemical supply company and specify HPLC grade. It is expensive but worth it!
