starting lineups

there was a thread awhile back talking about how you cant give SLU figures away on ebay.. I know thats true, because I tried to sell some a few months ago.. but here's one that brought a hefty $$ amount for a SLU.. link

    It only got one bid, though -- so it is not clear that that is the market-clearing price for the SLU -- might have just been a random blip.
    I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    I agree with MS. Another factor on this one is, while still not what they used to be, the football SLU's are still much more popular that the baseball. The tough 88-90's still go for very good money.

  • That's exactly right, alot of the very early football are impossible to find (lot's of regional pieces back then in basketball and baseball too), and with 1 bid it could have just gone to a Montana collector. There still are a few hardcores collecting these pieces but for the most part, they're bringing maybe 25% of what they used to sell for (I'm talking SLU's as a whole, a few still command more).
