Multicoin slabs...Do you like them or not?

Now that the mulit-coin slabs are here, I was wondering if anyone out there is going to collect their coins this way to conserve space, or whether or not they just dispise them. I have actually mixed feelings myself about them and also wondered if PCGS makes the multi-coin blue boxes to go with them....Anyone know?

I really like the concept, but the cost is more than I'd pay. Another problem is if you just dont like one of the many. It's hard to upgrade the one coin...

I cannot find information on how to submit the coins. What is the cost per coin and what coins can go in the multislab? The only gold coins I own are part of the 1995-W eagle set that I would like to slab before I sell them. The SAE 1995-W is already slabbed.

Personally, I am not enthusiastic about the multi-coin slabs. Too big, too bulky. The only aspect I like about them is when you are dealing with an entire proof or mint set...all one date, all one set. NGC's multi-coin holders that I have seen, break up a series...for example...'89, '90, '91 SAE...thats it, just those 3 in a holder. I firmly think the services should just keep them for annual sets. I agree with LincolnCentMan...if you dont like just ONE coin in the set, then you have to dump the whole set for upgrade of one coin. I dont see it catching on, for anything but the annual sets, once the novelty wears off.

I like the multi coin holder the mint puts the proof sets into. As far as the other service multi holders, I simply don't like them. It would be hard to upgrade a single coin as LincolnCentMan said.

Obviously, I wasnt talking about one HUGE slab Clackamas...lol...but WAIT! If the slab were...nah, forget it! Seriously though, I was only getting to the point of a SHORT series...like the SBA, where a current mult i coin slab could be used...heck, two six coin slabs could house the entire circulation strike SBA series...including 'wide rim' variety....and that gets more directly to my point...where/why/who/what determines what years in a long series, such as Lincolns...stirs up alot of questions as to 'what is really prompting them to do this'

The concept is good for coins like the state quarters or proof sets.
From what I have read about them though, you have to have your coins graded (hopefully all the same grade), then send them in again for the multi holder.
Sound very costly to me.

I don't care to much for them and according to the bids on ebay they sell for about 30% less than the individual slabs... plus they don't fit in my blue pcgs box without a saw.

Well, as a collector that has done homework on certain series, been burned before and know where to buy, and not to buy (namely home shopping channels) now, I do have to admit I WATCH (to pass the time away now that the Patriots are done..oh yeah, SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!!) these channels coin shows (as I am sure more of us that would admit it do) only to gaze in amazement at the prices, quality, etc....though I DO learn some neat tidbits from some of them...well, to my point...even the Shop at Home customers are buying the individual slabs FIRST...they are selling out WAY prior to the multicoin slabs, so, if the pigeons, that are getting raped with home shopping channels prices and not knowing any better, dont seem to like the multi-coin holders, what the hell do the TPGC think real, knowledgeable collectors will think of them? It's been 8 months since NGC first introduced them, and they are already tanking with collectors...oh, and yes, though I am a Boston raised and bred guy, I only dislike the Sox (GO YANKS) but do love the Pats (SUPERBOWL XXXVIII CHAMPS!!)

They seem to be an excellent concept to market coins. There are lots of coins which
are part of some small set and this makes an excellent way to sell them. There will be
some small problem with these getting busted open and the coins coming back on the
market but this shouldn't be overly concerning. It will be interesting to see if any demand
developes for even larger sets.

I have somewhat less interest in buying them myself, but would not exclude them from
consideration.

At first glance, I thought the multi coin slabs would be nice... But the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea.

Like other have said before me, upgrading would be difficult... I would never submit any coins to be put in them...

Although I might consider buying a set in them, it wouldn't be my first choice, even for a discount...

I haven't seen the PCGS multicoin slabs in person, nor have a seen a PCGS box for them. I have seen NGC's version, and the monster sized box that can house five or so of these monster slabs.

I love the idea as long as the coins have some relation to each other like a proof set!
