What the heck is this South Africa 1 cent coin made out of ? Weird tone pattern. Then on the 10 cent piece it appears to have a planchet flaw up top above the M. Poor quality from their mint and is this typical ?

Krause states the 1/2 and 1 cent are brass. They don't give the exact alloy. You do see some varied colors on these items.
