Lighting problem...

I am trying to take some pics with my digital camera. I keep getting lovely toning on my coins that doesn't really exist. What kind of light can I use to diminish this? Since these are the dogs mentioned in the earlier thread, it is especially funny to see my funky old cleaned bust halves with rainbow toning... Words of wisdom?

  • Of those bust halves that you call dogs. Would you give a forum member first crack. I collect dogs.

  • You should turn on your PM option. You do it in you profile located near the top right side of the screen.

Try changing your white balance or moving the light source (most likely the WB)

  • OK. I've turned on the private message "thing". I've got a '30 capped bust that has been cleaned. It is slabbed (I'm embarassed to admit this) by PCI as VF30. If you want her, we could talk. I just don't know how the private message thing works.

Also for a light source use 40 watt Reveal light bulbs about $2.50 for 4 at Kroger.

I agree with nut and tlhoy. It is more a camera function then an external lighting problem. If your camera has optional lighting sources, DO NOT USE HALOGEN! It will blue up every pic. If you play with all the settings, you'll find the correct settings for the best pic and it is very important to get your white balance as close to "0" as possible for true image-to-hand quality.
Everything starts and everything stops at precisely the right time for precisely the right reason.

Set the white balance of the camera to the light source you are using. Works every time.
