I just had my appraised for insurance using smr.. Not sure I would want to put the number here though.

Since I collect relatively fewer cards -- I don't think that there is a reliable number I could provide. For example, there are two cards that I am currently negotiating selling to a buyer who would pay me top price. Absent him, the cards are worth significantly less. So providing a number seems....as unreliable a guideline as the SMR can be at times.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Goodriddance...not quite the responses you were looking for huh??? I guess it was too sensitive of a question for the boarders.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • This is a little more personal than the "how many cards do you have" question.

Obviously, the collections on this board would run from the thousands to much much more than that. I'd say a minimum of a buck ninety eight.

You'd probably get a better response if you made it an anonymous poll. You could make the options like
    <$100
    $101-$500
    $501-$1000
    $1001-$2000
    $2001-$5000
    $5001-$10,000
    $10,001-$20,000
    $20,001-$50,000
    $50,001-$100,000
    $100,001-$250,000
    $250,001-$500,000
    $500,001-$1,000,000
    over $1,000,000
No such details will spoil my plans...
  • Plenty of people looking for that '76 Luzinski in 8 or higher!

Too many its very hard to assess a value of a collection, unless you are just going my SMR values, and even that isn't cut and dry.
Many of us have paid over smr for cards we need for a set or cards we had to have, and many have purchases where cards rise in value too! Or what about the $2.00 1960's common that we submit and it comes back a "9", or what about a card we had as a kid and now its slabbed, that beat up Mantle or Rose may garner a low PSA grade, but it may be priceless to us...jay

Plus you don't want to give the IRS any ammo. (I'm talking about other people now as I have never made a dime on cards.)

I don't think you were rude at all. Not only is there the security
issue, or the fact that it might be hard to pinpoint an exact figure,
but some might be too modest to share that info. You might not have
gotten the replies you wanted, but at least you didn't get ignored.

Mine is close! But if I ever won some cards in auctions it would be worth much more minus the Visa card checks I would need to write against the wining bids! lol*
