Advice on Krause desired!

Please help me if you can. I'm buying a 27th edition 20th Century Krause. Is it a good edition? I'm completely unfamiliar with this Krausenomicon (as the Dark Wizard puts it image) and I know some editions are better than others. Is this one at least correct as to the info given? I realize that pricing info will be outdated. What editions are the best, for each century?

Does anybody have a line on any good Krauses for a decent price? Thanks.

  • The 26th edition is fine. The 30th edition is NOT.

    Mike,
The 30th and 31st editions are the ones with problems, I'd avoid those. I have not noticed any major problems with the 3rd edition of any of the books that cover coins minted prior to 1901.

  • Mike, I have a 29 th edition --2002 year (20 th century) and I could say that I'm completely satisfied by it! (Well, I'm not so pedantic user of Krause as Satootoko isimage and I cann't say anything about the quality and precision of Japanese section of that edition) but I have heard from other collectors , that it is the updated one issue, because30th edition was not so succesfull-ask Satootoko about it! image.
I bought it a year ago from my local dealer by 230 NSH (about 50 $ ) and it was cheaper by 25 % than 30 th edition. I'm still thinking that it is great book and very good edition also, but may be some guys here have another opinion.

Hope it will help you! image

Thanks so much for the info, folks! The 27th edition is from 2000, so I assume it will include everything I'll need. I don't even collect modern junk too much, but it will help for pre-WWII coins. I'll try to pick up the other centuries eventually.
