O.K. Guys. I have to say that I am really PI$$ED............

I try to be generous with this kind of stuff and send something really nice that a collector would enjoy. But how would you feel if the item that you just sent to someone in the swap was immediately put up for sale on eBay??

That is exactly what asnovell has done with the 1957 PCGS MS66 Toned Franklin Half Dollar that I sent to him.

This is a link to the coin on my web site that I had for sale............
Look at the "Item #" 5557368, That is the PCGS Cert Number.

This Is A Link To His eBay Auction..............
Look At The Cert Number On The Slab.... 5557368

And the worst part of it is I did not even get a "Thank You" from him.

Sorry, this is the last swap for me.

  • I can say that all coins/items I have received will and are being kept. It is sad that one will make a trade to immediately turn around and sell that which was given, but you have to remember that each individual does not walk the same as you and yes some are driven by the almighty dollar. I have given and received but I would hope those that give do not think I would turn around and immediately sell that or those items sent to me. I look upon the item sent that the individual took time and thought to give that which they themselves would like to keep.

One bad apple does not spoil the bunch.

Jim, maybe he already had one -and decided to sell it! Just blow it off. Don't let it bug you. Actually once you gave it to him he could so whatever he wanted to with it right? Don't take it so personal. I don't like seeing you so disappointed...just let it go!image

JMoore, I hate to see stuff like that.......I still have all but one coin that was ever sent to me in a swap..and that one is in the pocket of my oldest nephew who wanted to have a 100+ year old coin to carry in his pocket like my Morgan pocketpiece.

  • Correct me if I am wrong but I just assumed that these swaps where not intended for this purpose.

I view it as something where we can get together with fellow Forum members and have some fun, meet new friends, exchange "Gifts" with each other, etc.

maybe he already had one -and decided to sell it!

Boom, if that was the case then common courtesy would be to send me a PM saying something like this:

Hey Jim, Thanks for the nice Franklin Half Dollar. I'm afraid that I already have one so if you don't mind I will probably trade it for something that I don't have or put it up for sale on eBay.

I would be OK with that. But the thing that really bugs me is the fact the he didn't even so much as send me a PM letting me know that he received the coin, let alone to say Thank You. Imagine my surprise when I saw it listed for sale on eBay.

  • Sorry to hear that Jim... I've recieved a few gifts from board members, and they will never leave my collection, except under extrenuating circumstances which i would hope to avoid... and I'm EXTREMELY greatful to those people, and to you Jim, for your overflowing generosity! Thank you Jim! image

    Jim,

That would disappoint me as well. I have a rule that any coin given to me as a gift never gets sold...EVER...

Well, maybe if I was homeless and starving on the street ... but not until then.

Just make a mental note and dont swap with him any more... but dont stop all together.

  • I never give stuff away I get from giveaways. Now Ive never been in a swap ive thought about it but I still wouldnt give away something I got. Well this guy sounds like this is what he had in mind all along.

  • This was not intended to offend. I am not into Franklin halves and was selling to get funds to purchase something I wanted/needed. I didn't know that this was looked down upon as I am new to the swap. I am since cancelled the auction.. My apologies..

  • Jim,

@s. I think that the majourity of folks here are credible and honest and the age old saying "1 bad apple can ruin the whole bunch" seems to get a whole lot more attention than the many here who conduct swaps ethically and don't use them to add to their product lines at the auction sites. We need to keep the honest, caring folks like you here so please don't let the asses run you off! image

  • Please don't let this get to you. It sounds like the person is more interested in collecting specific items.

I have given away plenty to many many people here..... and I will continue to do so....

and they have my blessings to do what ever they want to with the items......

But, I always hope they will keep them, or trade them up for say the same coin in a better grade....

    and remember my kindness......

I agree... And I will continue giving, just no more "swaps" for me.

    Lucy,

In most cases I would feel the same, but please see my previous post in this thread as to why this one go me so Pi$$ed.

  • I guess this whole thing boils down to Common Courtesy. Is it really to much trouble to say "Thank You"?
    ANA Member R-213302
  • Jim, It looks like asnovell's son was signing up for your giveaway for the Franklin set. If you look in his sig line you and profile will find that the forum account is listed as Andrew Snovell. It was probably his father that signed up for the coin swap. Just thought I would point this out instead of you getting mad at a child.image
  • Man you really have too much time on your hands boppy.. This is my son who is 12. If all coin collectors were like this there would a lot fewer. This is not even your concern and involves a coin that I received in a swap that I did not need so placed on Ebay. When I found out that Jmoore was crying I cancelled the auction. As far as not thanking him, after the nasty post he left I emailed and apologized for this.. Please get on with your business, or better yet start from the beginning of the thread and learn the facts for once.. People there are more important things to concern yourselves with. Jmoore please send your address as I do not want this coin. It has caused too much trouble over something so petty!!

  • assnovell: Digging your own grave by your insults... Lucy has earned my trust and respect, and a great MANY people on this forum will join in with me in saying that Lucy is a class-act. However, you've shown your self to be the complete opposite... I have recieved coins from several members on the forums, and have never once failed to say thank you... that's just common sense, and I'm 17... hate to think what age level your common sense has developed to... Anyways, you're just digging your grave deeper and deeper with your idiocy and insults, and really, anyone here on the forums can jump into a thread. And you have no right to say that it's no one elses' business but yours and Jims, b/c by posting the thread, Jim brought everyone on the forums who wished to participate into it...

  • My only question is...

If it is not your interest, why not just save it for another swap, and send it to somebody else?
  • That's what I should have done. It would have avoided all of this. When I realized that this was looked down upon I cancelled the auction..

    Jim,

    Don't give up.

If I read the post right, this was not a swap, it was a give away.
Those things must be tricky because everybody wants something for nothing.
When asnovell states, "I am not into Franklin halves and was selling to get funds to purchase something I wanted/needed." This just shows he didn't want the coin to keep.

If it was really for his son, I think (hope) his son would have kept it.

BUT on the flip side of the coin (pun intended) you have shown us what this board is all about, getting new collectors involved.
WOW, what a coin to send, my hats off to you.

What about a local coin club, they might have yn's that would love that coin?
I know that a 'local' club in LA has a show once a year & gives out 'play money' to the ny's for helping put on the show. At the end of the day there is an auction with the 'money' & coins people have donated. Cool way of having young numismatics work for new coins.

    Just a thought,
    Augie

    Jim,

While I understand how you feel about this, it is my opinion that once the coin left your possession its fate lied in the hands of asnovell.

I know you have made other collectors happy with your giveaways and for that you should be proud.
