Is it true the mint is going to design an incuse statehood quarter? If so, any idea which state it will be?

Minnesota has expressed interest in a partial incuse design I think. I hope they get their wish. That would be cool.

  • Incuse would mean that the main design features would be in to the coin itself as opposed to coming out of it - see the Indian quarter and half eagles of 1908-29

  • Thanks FC57. I have seen that. It would be too cool if they could pull it off. What do you think the chances are of the mint really sayin' OK to this?. Most of what has been selected for the 2004 quarters have really been boring. State outlines??????? At least my home state MD did get the capital dome on the coin. If you have not seen it in person, the Maryland state house is quite a sight indeed. I love some of what was done but others are way too busy, tried to cover too much on a small coin. I don't know what the answer is, but outlines of the state are NOT it.

  • Didn't one critic of the Indian coin says that the incused design would be unhygenic and carry disease? Here is a photo:

Yes, there was an uproar about the incuse design . It was argued that germs and bacteria would "collect" in the design and spread disease. Must have been wild living in those days...
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • Just what your mother use to say about "you don't know where that coin has been" Now I hold a old coin in my hand a wonder image
