Question on sports card indexes

Hi!

First time on this forum; I usually stay over on the coin side.

I have a co worker who mentioned last month that he played
1 season with the Atlanta Falcons. I went down to Barnes & Noble
and tried to locate him in a football card book, but saw that it was
indexed by year and card #, not by player name. Anyone know of
a good website or book that has an index based on the player's
name so I can then find out if he is on a card? I think that it would
be fun to bring him one to get signed.

Thanks!

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • what is his name?

Football reference shows that he played. He wants to find cards of this player. Give us his name and I'm sure that someone on the board will be able to help you out.

  • His name is Steve Griffin; he said that he played 1 year with the Atlanta Falcons.
I am guessing that he played in the early 80's by how old he currently looks.
Since he wasn't a skill player, I wasn't even sure if he would have a card. I just
thought it would be neat if he did.
So far I have only met one guy who made it in the NFL. (Fred McAfee; I was a
freshman at Mississippi College when he was a senior; he got a chance to start
with the Saints the next year when Fenner, Hilliard and Heyward all got hurt)

  • Nope. Maybe he never was on a card.

  • well there were actually TWO different
Steve Griffins that played for the Falcons
in 1987. and both were only there 1 year.

One was a WR from Purdue.
    the other
    was a RB from Clemson.

  • Thanks! I guess that I need to track down what his college was.
As those stats show, either way it wasn't much of a career, but at
least he can say he suited up and played a few snaps. (More than
    most of us can say.)
