Love the Romanian coin - why can't the US produce coins that have that kind of life and detail?!?!?!?!?!?

I guess in coins boring is for some odd reason perceived as dependable... that's the best I can come up with [actually I wrote something else but it might've been insulting ]
I like the Romanian coin as well. Is she carrying a sickle? The year predates the rise of any nation to communism, but the design suggests it nonetheless.
I like the Romanian obverse design as well. I can almost see the colorful designs on her dress.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
I'm not sure why the Romanian leu has such a similar design but I'd guess that it's just the most impressive popular image that can be easily expressed on little round bits of metal
As for the sickle.. a friend of mine was telling me the same thing about the reverse on turn-of-the-century Chilean pesos with full hammer & sickle.
Also, the reason why these pics look better than my usual lousy shots is that I finally got to shoot in daylight.. that and I figured out in PhotoShop using Image > Adjust > Auto Levels really helps.. though manually tweaking them through Adjust > Levels might be better.
I would guess that she is carring a sickle not as a precursor to the rise of Communism but rather because the background of the design shows grain being harvested.

Romania was part of the Latin Monetary Union, so that coin should be the same size, weight and silver composition as a French 1 franc of the same period. As for the design, who knows?
Spoon, you finally got some sunshine, huh?! That's not a common occurance there in Germany!!
I think the sickle is very symbolic of hard work, harvest, and the bounty of farming the earth. I've seen it on different coins.

She is, perhaps, Romania's version of la Semeuse. Sometimes she is shown wearing a sort of embroidered-looking pillbox cap. The sickle refers to bounty and agriculture. I think the device she is holding is a walking spindle for thread, which would represent the crafts. The Romanians made some gorgeous coins and medals and they're fairly rare.

I've seen lots of high grade Russian 10 and 20 kopeki. I wonder if they were hoarded or exported in great quantities during the Revolution.
