Commemoratives beyond 2004?

Has anyone heard of any commemoratives to be made after this year?

We have both the "Thomas Edison" and "Lewis and Clark Expedition" commems coming out this year, but I don't see any links to congressional legislation (on the U.S. Mint's web site) authorizing any commems beyond that.

I'm not too wild about the Edison design, but I really like the Lewis and Clark design.

The idea is being kicked around to Produce a 2 cent piece, 20 cent piece and a 3$ gold piece commemoratives like the buffalo dollar except with true planchet size and metal content.
  • I read that in 2006 a Commemorative Ben Franklin could be released for his 200th birthday.image

imageCorrection: it should read his 300th birthday instead of his 200th

  • DirtroadRider: maybe they will hi-jack the Half Dollar design and do a change back to Ben? image

  • I'm really hoping the Mint will issue a 3 piece matte set of the Lewis and Clark commemoratives, which would consist of the Unc Dollar and both Nickel designs in matte finish. Thats my wish for 2004!

I don't believe that Mr. Franklin was born in 1806!image

  • Aethelred, thanks for catching the error. You are correct it would be his 300th birthday not his 200th. Below is the link to the article. image

    Ben Franklin

    SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!
Bring back all of the oldies in commemorative form.
