if you have a premier account, and someone sends you payment via their bank account, will you still be charged the 2.9% and $.30?

    Yup...

I just sold my brother's camera on eBay. It brought about $400. The seller paid via PayPal. I totalled up all the fees (listing fee, final value fee, Paypal) and it was almost $25.00.

I'm torn....as a seller, I hate it. As an ebay stockholder, I love it....

    Just wondering.

Are the fees now the same for credit card payments and other types of funding?

Trying to get folks to understand you don't take credit card payments is tough.

    Idhair,

What I gather from Russ and ccrdragon is the following: If you have a Premier account, (which gives you the ability to accept credit cards---a Regular account does not give you this ability) you will be charged the $.30 plus the 2.9% fee if PayPal is used in any capacity--REGARDLESS of whether the buyer pays by credit card, PayPal account, or bank account. If it's through PayPal, and you are a Premier account holder, you pay no matter if it's credit card or not.

However, if you have a Regular account, you can accept pmt from the buyer's PayPal account or bank account free of charge, but you cannot accept credit card payments (through PayPal).

    Clear as mud?

Ok. It sounds like it's still the same as it was.

I was thinking they were changing things where everyone had to pay for the service.

I believe that in the last few days there was a post by BOOM and a reference by jbsteven that echecks aka transfer from a checking account into a premier account incur a flat $5 fee to the premier account holder.

As an aside is it possible to refuse ANY payment into your PayPal account?

    Bajjerfan,
I'm pretty sure you can tweek your preferences as far as what types of payments you will or will not receive. I know I have mine set for "confirmed addresses only", so if someone tries to pay me without a confirmed address, the payment gets denied, and the buyer either has to "confirm" their address, or send a check/money order.

  • If you have a "personal" account, thus no ability to accept credit card payments, and someone does try to pay with a credit card, you can "accept" or "deny" their payment. However, if you "accept" you will be upgraded to a "Premier" account. Yes, then they will forever sock you for fees no matter what the funding source on the buyer's end.

I have a personal account but I just want to know if it is possible to refuse ANY payment whether the Payer is verified or not. I suppose you will have to reverse the transaction and credit his account. It just seems that most transactions are pretty much automatic.
