What's up with this Jeff, Error Experts?

Ok, found this Jefferson in change... it has higher than normal rims, it's slightly smaller than a normal Jefferson, and slightly thicker, I've balanced it on a ruler, and it appears to be the same weight... the design itself is weakly struck, and b/c of the slightly smaller diameter, the legend around the rims on both sides are merged into the rims, the date is somewhat visible as a 1981-P, the upper loop of the 8 is actually on top of the rim... though it may be a 1987... I'm not sure, butit appears to be a 1... there doesn't appear to be any luster breaks, though it is pretty scratched up... the legend is also pretty flat, and no where close to being sharp. The P just looks like a blob int he shape on a P... the reverse is in similar condition, weak strike, MONTICELL and FIVE CENTS are barely legible, the fields, luster and legend, are in similar condition as the front... below are pics, I took scans of the coin alone, and the coin with a normal Jefferson next to it... I tried to get a scan that showed the difference in thickness, but it didn't work right.... oh well, here's the pictures... comments greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It has been tapped all around the rim with a hammer or something. Notice how the rim is into the letters, that could not happen in the mint!
  • Ok, at 12 and 6 o'clock there are little flat spots on the rim... but would tapping like that make the legend and design weaken?

Look kinda like counting machine abuse. There are lots of circular scratches.

Somebody either spooned it or it has been dropped through a hell of a lot of slots in a casino.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Can't say what happened to the design, but is that corrosion or something around all the letters?

    Definitely not an error, though!!!
  • Thx for the answers everyone! image

  • I'm told there are coins that get stuck in a washing machine and the constant rolling around causes them to look like this.

    Just my thoughts ....
Some call it an accumulation not a collection
