Could someone help me translate this into French please.

"I have received your payment but the envelope was wet, like it was underwater for a long time and the ink ran on your address so I cannot read it!
Could you please email me your address so I can mail your coins to you. I have given you positive feedback but I can't mail the coins without your address.

Yeah, Glenn. Don't trust babelfish. Wait until a native speaker can do it for you.

You should see what some online translators do to the Polish language!

    We ARE watching you.

  • My bi-lingual contact in Germany liked the Boz' site's translations better than Babelfish on a couple of examples I sent him from both.

  • OK I think I got it.

"J'ai reçu votre paiement mais l'enveloppe était mouillée, comme c'était sous-marin pour un temps long et l'encre a couru sur votre adresse, donc je ne peux pas lire votre adresse! S'il vous plaît m'envoie un e-mail à avec votre adresse je peux envoyer les pièces à vous. Je vous ai donné des réactions positives mais je ne peux pas envoyer les pièces sans votre adresse.

    Translated to English:

Please sends me an e-mail to with your address I can send the pieces to you. I gave you positive reactions but I cannot send the pieces without your address. Grieved for this delay."

    Using the boz Translator
I hope that you can read this.
"I received your payment but the envelope was wet, as it was underwater for a long time and ink ran on your address, thus I cannot read your address! Please sends to me an e-mail with with your address I can send the
parts to you. I gave you positive reactions but I cannot send the parts without your

Glenn, that's perfectly understandable and I'd go with it.

It's actually worse than cosmic's initial translation. I don't know why you expect the French to English translation to confirm that your French text is right. That's not the way it works, but like I said, he'll get the message anyway. image

  • this translation thing has become kind of fun. I modified your original to try and get it to say the same thing but with fewer words. I then used one service to translate to French and another back to English to check it. This iswhat I got back in English:

I received your payment but the envelope was humid and ink worked on your address thus I not the can read! Svp the email your address thus me can dispatch change pieces to you. I gave you the positive rétroaction but I cannot dispatch the change pieces. Grieved for delays

    That from this French:

J'ai reçu votre paiement mais l'enveloppe était humide et l'encre a fonctionné sur votre adresse ainsi je ne peux pas la lire ! Svp l'email votre adresse ainsi moi peut expédier des pièces de monnaie à vous. Je vous ai donné la rétroaction positive mais je ne peux pas expédier les pièces de monnaie. Désolé pour retarde

The modified message that I came up with:

I have received your payment but the envelope was wet and the ink ran on your address so I cannot read it! Please email your address so I can mail coins to you. I gave you positive feedback but I can't mail the coins. Sorry for the delay.

    And your original:

I have received your payment but the envelope was wet, like it was underwater for a long time and the ink ran on your address so I cannot read it!
Could you please email me your address so I can mail your coins to you. I have given you positive feedback but I can't mail the coins without your address.
    Sorry for this delay

People that can speak more than one language really impress me now. It is harder than I thought to translate one language to another. Hope all of these responses have helped.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but that it's easy to understand. Of course, my French isn't fluent anymore because it's been 20 years.

  • Ok, I put Syracusian's translation & the last one I posted in the email. I'm sure he'll understand. He probably speaks English anyway so I put that in there also.
Thanks for your help, this was fun!

One more note to this thread. Read Mark Twain's Jumping Frog of Calavaras County, and his retranslation of it into English after a French periodical had published it (in a French translation). You will pee your pants.

    We ARE watching you.
