Nice set, but I don't like how some doofus wrote in the lining at the top of the case.

I get the impression someone paid $25.00 for the set in 1970.

  • Not worth that money. Box mishandled, box always tones the coins, why aren't the coins toned? Very shiney.

My set is toned, and I paid around $75.00 for it.........

If that's an original set in its original case, I really doubt the coins were kept in it for the last 50 years. If the lining has managed to develop that much stain, the coins should be much more "oxidized" themselves.

I have a choice gem of this set. The coins are in a plastic insert. Perhaps this was
how they were issued and most were removed and placed in the holder. They do
    tone heavily in the holder.

This guy may have removed the coins himself and the price might reflect that most
    of these are heavily toned.

I've bought excellent sets that look like that - coins were kept in mylar so as not to tone.

On the surface, that looks to be a pretty outstanding set. There are plenty of really cruddy sets out there that still have a nice case, so if one is needed, buy a junk set at a discount and "throw away the coins."

I was very surprised to see the set selling for over $125.

I'm not surprised. The pictures looked very enticing although not having closeups would arouse concern on my part.

Top sets will go for £60 to £70.

The copper looks too bright to be over 50 years old. Hmmm...
