How does CSA grade?

Has anyone ever crossed CSA cards to PSA and if so how did they do? Or if anyone owns CSA graded cards do they look like there graded fair or over/under graded? The reason im asking is becouse i just picked up a CSA 7.5 (NM+) card on eBay very cheap and i was just wondering if i can expect to get a NM+ card or a lower grade card by PSA standards. Im not crossing this to PSA, i bought the card to crack out an put in my Near Mint ungraded 1962 Fleer football set. So what do you think......did i get a deal?

  • I'm dying to hear anyone's experiences with them too. A long time ago I picked up a csa 7.5 t-206....not knowing there was a difference between grading companies. needless to say the card looks great, but it might be trimmed. it seems a hair smaller than psa graded t-207s i own. i haven't had the heart to try and cross it over because i spent quite a bit on it and would be very unhappy if it doesn't cross. i guess ignorance is bliss.

never had a csa card but that kemp looks way o/c top to bottom without looking at the other aspects of the card
  • From the poor scan it looks like it has about 20-80 t/b centering and thats fine with me as long as the corners are nice and it doesn't have any print defects becouse this card is going in my ungraded set. Its also much cheaper than the PSA 8 that was on ebay last week for over $300.00.

I think Albie/aro13 has crossed a few CSA cards over to PSA, but with less-than-stellar results. He could probably tell you more, as a few others could, I'm sure.

  • I have one CSA card graded VG (It's a C55 tobacco card). It looks to be accurately graded to me. The holders look pretty sturdy and tamper-proof as well.

  • I have crossed 2 vintage CSA graded cards. Actually technically I broke them out of their holders and submitted them but they graded the same with PSA.

Paul - I have had poor success with my CSA crossovers but I have read cases where people have been happy with them. The card that you bought looks like a fairly old case - I think the second one that they used. It is very possible the card you bought was graded only NM+ because the centering is off top to bottom. Based on my results and who does the grading my main concern would be of trimmed and altered cards slipping into the holder.
I do not think that they are in business any more at least not the original owners and company in Ohio.
  • My only experience with CSA was a 1959 Topps Roger Maris graded NM/MT. The card turned out to have been power erased and would not cross over. I found this out at the 2001 National in Cleveland and took it over to CSA's booth and they would not listen and claimed that the card had not been altered. I then went and borrowed another 1959 Maris from another dealer and showed CSA the difference between the two cards. You could plainly see where the knob end of the bat had been removed during the erasing to make the card more centered. The person at CSA still could not explain why the other Maris card showed the knob end of the bat, but the card they graded did not. They would not reimburse me for the card. Your typical scumbag grading company, that basicly doesn't know crap about cards or the hobby. They are just in it to make a quick buck, but thankfully I don't think they are in business anymore. I think, I could be wrong.
