T206 Price Fluctuations

Granted the prices of graded T206 cards have steadily risen over the years. SMR is a poor tracking guide for determining actual market value, especially for this time period of cards, however the following auction takes it to a new level. The bottom line comes back to supply and demand and a touch of insanity in this auctions circumstance. And if a seller can get over 4 to 6 times what a card books at, then more power to them.
The card itself earns it's grade, and could be used as a visual reference for a PSA 3 T206 card. IMHO the card has no chance of getting a higher grade, and even still is way over SMR for a PSA 4, if it did. The card is not scarce by any means. The seller has over 8200 positive feedbacks with no negatives and a few neutrals. The buyer has a total of 135 positive feedbacks with no negatives.
Thougth it was worth a posting: The bid is currently at $1175.00 !!!

That is interesting. What is more interesting to me though is that one of the bidders, wingetma, bid it up 13 times. This person bid on an SGC 84 1952 Mathews card I had back in early December. He drove the card up to the Reserve price ($7000) the night before the auction ended and then wound up winning it when no one else bid. 2 days later I get an e-mail from him saying basically "Gee sorry. I can't afford it". He also refused to pay for the fees I incurred. I personally am hoping for him to have a slow, painful demise. At least with this seller he had the good sense to stop bidding.

I agree that the current price on that Young is insane. I wouldn't say
it's a scarce card necessarily, but the Young portrait is probably the
toughest HOF card to find in the T206 set (besides the Wagner & Plank,
of course). You just don't see it too often on ebay, which might explain
the high price.
Joe--
I'm surprised you didn't leave him a negative for non-payment. Unless
you're worried about retaliation, it might teach him a lesson & warn
other sellers about his wallet not being able to back up his bidding.
I filed a non-paying bidder alert. At least with those, if you accumulate enough, they'll throw him off. The E-bay system is fraught with problems with respect to negatives, in my opinion. I don't know the exact number of negatives one can acquire but it seems endless. The negative I'd give him wouldn't stop him from bidding on your stuff and it would take a bunch of negatives in a short period of time to remove him. (It also seems like he pays for most stuff....just not $7000 items I guess). Between my 2 sites, I have close to 7000 positives with no negatives. I hate getting a retaliatory negative from a deadbeat.
