    They close everything here when it snows! The have to do it because everyone is at the store the second the first flake falls buying bread, milk and beer.

    I drove east on I-40 from Raliegh in October. Why is it that every county in North Carolina along I-40 has a motto relating to the future? "Gateway to the Future", "Reaching for the Future", etc.

    Because for most counties in eastern North Carolina, the past sucked and the present isn't much better -- it's the poorest part of the state. Besides, "Gateway to the Future" sounds a lot better than one county's former motto: "Welcome to Klan Country." image
