Anyone else see an article today about Canada wanting to....

possibly bring the Turks & Caicos Islands into the Commonwealth as their newest Province? image

I was reading it this morning in the local Metro (transit system) newspaper! Looks like a few Canadian Ministers have promoted this idea to Parliament!

Thoughts?

Never heard of that, but I have heard threats by some of the western provinces to join the US if Quebec becomes independent.

If those provinces join the U.S., I sure hope they bring at least their COINAGE with them!!imageimage
  • I think it would be great! They should have a nice warm place.

If this becomes a reality, Turks & Caicos will be the new retirement province of Canada (replacing British Columbia). image

  • I believe there was a blurb on the CBS news on Wednesday about it. It'd probably be like the Great Britain-Bermuda tourist based relationships. With the economy based on tourism, lobster, and offshore financial services and everything else imported Canada must decide if its worth it to defend and support the islands economically with its tourism dollars and economic subsidies.

I remember hearing about that back in the 1980s. An odd match, to be sure. Maybe it's just that well-to-do Canadians want to have somewhere warm to retire to. Of course, if you could make a trade of Quebec for the Turks & Caicos, well, Canada would be ahead, wouldn't it? image

Prop up the economy of a caribbean country that depends on tourism and agraculture so it can be used as a vacation and retirement community? I thought that was what Cuba was for?? image

The US already has dibs on Cuba as the 52nd state, after Puerto Rico imageimage
  • First time I heard of this. Very interesting!

  • Technically, the US has the right to interfere in Cuban politics under the Platt amendment.
