    why is the first photo, the ngc holder dark and yet the reverse with the color the holder is very white? Yet in the pic with the dark ngc holder (obverse) the coin is very white???

    I am assuming that different lighting was used to make the color visible. ( I didn't take the photos myself)

    The obverse is bright white reflective so to properly expose the bright coin the camera's meter would underexpose the shot thus making the surrounding slab grey . On the reverse the coin is probably not as reflective so the camera's meter selected an exposure for the coin that would also be close to the proper exposure for the surrounding slab so appears more natural white.
