im a newbie and have a few questions

hi, i am new to psa and i just joined a week or so ago. my dad passed down to me his 1960's football card collection. i have many many many awesome cards in this collection. i took my cards to a local card shop and the guy who is a registered psa dealer told me that most of my cards would grade in a 8 or 9. i have all the big names and they are all in amazing condition. i just have one question. i have many many duplicates of cards, and some of them have wax stains on teh fronts of them. does anyone here know how i can get them off? please let me know cause i really wanna get them off. i dont think i woudl send them into psa for grading but i just want them to look good.

also, would it make sence for me to get my entire 1965 philadelphia set graded? every card is in absolute mint condition and the guy at the card shop told me that he woudl look into getting it done. he also told me he wouldnt be suprised if i got a couple of the cards graded a perfect 10. if i did, how much would they be worth, cause they are not in the smr.

thanks

  • Welcome to the boards!

First, removing wax stains from the front of cards is simple. Place the cards on a completely flat surface, then take something like panty hose or a terry cloth and rub them. It should come right off.

Before I would submit anything in substantial numbers, I'd just choose some really nice stars and send them in first. It'll get your feet wet, and give you a firsthand example of PSA in action. I see you took your cards to a "registered PSA dealer"; I was wondering what the name of that dealer might be. You see, there are registered PSA dealers, then there are dealers who have a membership with PSA which allows them to submit cards. If indeed your dealer is registered, then I'd take a lot of his suggestions. If he's just a guy with a membership, then be wary.

the value of 10s are all over the place..but they're still increasingly rare. Dreaming about getting multiple 10s is like dreaming of winning the Powerball. I wouldn't worry about things like that until they happen.

Completely graded sets are in vogue as we speak. Some high grade commons sell for more than many HOFs. However, I'd still say just to grade a few to start and go from there. Collecting isn't a race, especially if you already own all the cards you need. Assuming this is for a collection's sake (and not a blatant buck chasing effort), everything will come together in due time.

    Good luck!

    Steve
