Nevada Quarter??

Wonder what they will use for the Nevada State quarter? Maybe a mushroom cloud? the motto "The glow in the dark State? A scene of the Vegas strip? Or what do you all think they could use?
Just a thought..lol

  • Here's one idea that was floating around, but it looks way too complicated for the back of a quarter:

  • It does look like it might be to hard for them to get something like that to mint easy. But it is a nice looking design IMO so it wont be used(not ugly enough). Thanks for the link.

  • That's a decent design. A little cluttered, but certainly no worse than some of the others. image
  • They should put a Carson City Morgan on the back in place of the "ALL FOR OUR COUNTRY" thingy. image

Careful, that "thingy" is our state motto! But in truth, I think that an exact copy of a CC mint Morgan should be the entire reverse of our state quarter. NEVADA could be added under IN GOD WE TRUST and just above the eagles head and the CC mint mark right where it has always been. Nevada (Carson City) was made famous by these Morgans and there is absolutely no reason to "modernize" our states design to fit in with all the others. It would then be a coin giving tribute to the only coin ever minted in Nevada.

    My 2c worth!

I wonder how hard it will be to find one with full aces.

Ok...that state motto thingy should be replaced by a CC Morgan.

    Hows that? image

  • They should have a slot machine and the Mustang Ranch.

Looks like Lele Soboleski (sp?) to me.

On topic, has the likeness of a coin ever appeared on a coin before?

Tom, thanks for a name to go with that face!!! If her first name IS Lele, a google should work!

As for a coin on a coin....not that I know of, which is why I would LOVE to see it on the Nevada quarter. Went so far as to email Mr. Carr from the link post.

Attached to it, was a picture an MS68 Morgan reverse straight out of Heritage's Platinum Night sig auction . Played with the pic first tho. Added "NEVADA" in the space just above "In God We Trust". Just below it, there was enough space to add "THE SILVER STATE". and just below the left and right wings but above the branch and arrows in the eagles claws I added "1864", the year of Nevada statehood and "2006" for the year of mint release. All else left as pictured, including the CC mint mark. Asked for his opinion, and to whom I could submit my suggestion.

Hope he takes the time to answer. Will post his response if/when I get one. image

Yes, it has been done by Isreal, Australia and I think Greece. There have possibly been others as well, those are just the ones I know of off the top of my head.

When I sent Mr. Carr my suggestion for the reverse of a Morgan to be on the Nevada state quarter, I was not under the impression that he, personally, had had anything to do with the design at his web site. As that turned out NOT to be the case (he did collaborate with others for the design), Mr. Carr spent some time in his email, defending his design.

As gracious as he was in doing so, he also showed class by acknowledging his liking of my idea as submitted. The problem I will have with proposing the Morgan to the Governor of Nevada (right now, the only place to send ideas/designs), is the fact pointed out by Mr. Carr that,by law, all State Names and dates must be in the same location as all other state quarters. Therefore, alterations to the reverse Morgan would have to be made in order to accomodate this requirement.

The only way I can see a way to successfully do this would be to shrink the Morgan design enough to leave an area at the top for"NEVADA" the date "1846" under it, and an area at the bottom to put in "2006" the mint release year. The other way would be to remove the word "STATES" for room for "NEVADA" and "1846"
and the "DOL" from DOLLAR would have to go for the "2006" year.

I personally didn't know of this requirement and having looked at various state quarters, see that indeed, the state name with dates are all in the same places.

    Anyone have a preference?
